Cale was preparing for the rest of his plans, now the ancient power. He had to make sure he was alone, he managed to get rid of Ron by asking him to get his stuff from Billos. Unfortunately, there was still Choi Han who didn't intend to get away from him. No problem, he was going to use him, anyway he was too weak to get the old power alone.
He went down to the city with Choi Han, he didn't explain to him what they were going to do and he didn't ask any questions either. They went through all the bakeries in the city together with Choi Han's help, it was much easier for him to carry the bags of bread with someone so strong with him. They were able to get a good number of bags. Cale hoped that given the quantity, one trip would be enough.
They then headed into the slums, towards a fenced tree. This large tree seemed to be hundreds of years old. The trees in the slums were usually cut down to make firewood, but this tree wasn't like that. Even people in need were afraid to approach it, it was said in the book that it was a man-eating tree. Even if it was just a legend, its appearance helped it survive for several centuries. This is also the reason for the presence of curious little ones not far away, they were surely interested in the presence of a noble near this cursed tree. But Cale simply ignored them because they were only children and they didn't seem to want to approach, just observe them from afar.
As he turned his attention back to the tree, he could see Choi Han uncomfortably next to him. "Is there something wrong?"
"This thing... doesn't look good..." Choi Han hesitantly pointed to the tree.
Cale didn't know if it was his experience or just these sword master senses but he didn't answer him. Instead he started to take a loaf of bread out of the bag and put it in the hole. His hand soon disappeared into the darkness under the tree, and Cale felt a cold sensation as the bread in his hand disappeared, he quickly pulled it out.
He could hear Choi Han's confused and worried muttering but he didn't bother to explain, he was busy.
This man-eating tree wasn't really a man-eating tree. It was a tree that ate anything. It was the side effect of the power left by the person who starved to death and he had to feed it until the darkness disappeared to recover the shield's former power.
He continued to fill the black hole until it turned white. He then quickly heard a voice speaking to him in his head.
-Thank you very much it's been so long since I ate something so delicious, I have something to give you to thank you!
He didn't have time to rejoice at this or even be worried about a sudden voice in his head, a bright light enveloped him. It began to be absorbed by his body and more precisely his heart. But when it had completely disappeared, he could feel a sharp pain in his chest.
He immediately groaned and put a hand on his heart. Which alerted the swordsman, who approached Cale.
"Cale-nim, you're not feeling well, what's going on?"
At the sound of the panicked voice, two small kittens appeared to see what was going on. They seemed as worried as Choi han as they approached. Their expression seemed almost human but the situation didn't really allow Choi Han to care at the moment.
Cale would like to tell him that he was fine and that it was normal but he hadn't read in the novel that recovering the ancient powers caused pain.
Although it ended up calming down and becoming tolerable so that they could return to the county. He was accompanied by Choi Han as he helped him walk. The two kittens continued to follow them to the entrance where the guards were. They were a little hesitant to continue before Cale allowed them to follow. They seemed worried about him for a while so he might as well help them a little too.
Once inside, he was accompanied to his room by Choi Han and Ron who had joined them in the hallway.
"What happened?"
"I don't know, he started to hurt all of a sudden." The answer came from Choi Han, Cale had obviously told him not to talk about what happened near the tree.
Arriving in the room Choi Han sat him down on his bed.
"Young master I'm going to call the doctor." Ron could see that Cale looked pale and was breathing heavily.
"There's no need. I'll just get some sleep and it'll pass." Of course, Cale refused and lay down on his bed, not bothering to take off the covers.
"Young master, it could be related to your illness. It could be dangerous for you."
"Ron, I'm fine." As much as he wanted to continue talking with him Ron knew that if Cale had an idea, he couldn't change his mind.
"*sigh*Alright, we'll let you rest."
"But-"Choi Han seemed to want to protest but was cut off by the butler.
"*sigh* Come with me now." Ron pulled him by the arm to get him out but he certainly wasn't going to stop there, he would do what was necessary once he saw that his young master was asleep.
The kittens had found a place in a corner of the room and were still looking at him worriedly but Cale didn't care. He closed his eyes to fall asleep, he didn't really know when he finally did but he quickly opened his eyes to see that he was no longer in his room but in an unknown place everything seemed white and empty. And above all he didn't feel anything anymore no pain, he wasn't going to complain about it despite the strange situation.
He could see a white-haired man approaching him, he wanted to move away but he couldn't move.
"Hello I'm the god of death and... I wanted to tell you that I'm sorry..." Cale stopped trying to run away when the man started talking.
"For what reason?" He already knew that he wasn't going to like his answer based on the other's expression, he also voluntarily ignored the word god, he didn't want to know anything.
"It's because of me that you're in this world, it was planned but..."
Cale raised an eyebrow at his hesitation.
"But I made a mistake... a small mistake and that's why your condition here is the same as on Earth. The original Cale was doing very well and was quite healthy..."
"*Sigh* Well it's not a big deal." It was annoying but he could live with it, he was used to it.
"I'm relieved that you think like that but..." His expression became even more sorry.
"Is there something else?" He now had a bad feeling.
"This mistake is linked to your soul and... it might be killing you a little... slowly..." He looked at the ground, not wanting to meet him gaze.
"What?! Are you serious?!" » Of course Cale had already noticed that something was wrong with his body that seemed weaker than usual, but he didn't think it was that serious.
"Yes... but I'm currently working to help you... although I can't cure you... I'll at least try to keep you alive."
"Do you already have a solution?" He asked a little worried and hesitant but with a glimmer of hope.
"No... but I'm working on it..."
"*Sigh*How much time do I have left?"
"I... I don't know." The god moved away from him a little, unsure of his reaction to these words.
Cale looked at him in disbelief. "Are you really a god?" He had to ask the question, this person could be anything but a god.
"Yes! Of course, I do!" He seemed to regain some of his dignity somewhere with this sentence but Cale didn't really believe it.
"Then hurry up and help me!"
"Yes! I'll do my best!"
He wanted to reply, but felt as if he were about to wake up. The god of death told him one last thing before leaving.
"You have to take care of yourself so you don't make your condition worse."
He then woke up in his room with Ron, his father and a doctor. It seemed like he hadn't listened to him, now how was he going to explain the situation to them...
