Fortunately for him, the mansion wasn't that big. He quickly came across the right room. He opened the door and sighed with relief when he saw the young man still there. His relief disappeared as quickly as it had come. He didn't seem well. He tried to move closer when an angry voice echoed through the room.
"What did you do to him?!" The still-invisible little dragon was angry. His human seemed fine before he was teleported here. He hadn't said anything during Cale and his father's conversation, but his human looked particularly sad afterward. He had lain down next to him to comfort him while he slept, but a ragged breath had startled him awake. Since then, he'd been trying to wake Cale but to no avail. In his mind, the only person responsible was this man, and he was going to protect his human.
The Count flinched at the loud voice. He could feel the air vibrating around him, but his gaze never left the sick young man. "Nothing, I promise you. I-" The voice sounded like a child's. Deruth did his best to calm it, but when he tried to move toward the bed, he was pushed back.
"Don't come any closer!"
"He needs help." He couldn't ignore the urgency in the death god's words. He absolutely had to act now.
"Perhaps, but not from you!" A shield appeared above the bed. It frustrated the Count, but he couldn't force his way through. Whoever was protecting the young man, even if it was definitely a young boy, the child was strong. He could sense it.
"Will you allow a doctor to come and see him?" He decided to put his stubbornness aside and try to negotiate.
He didn't get a direct answer, but the shield had disappeared. He took this as confirmation and quickly went out to find a doctor and priest. He hadn't forgotten what C-Kim Rok Soo had said about how to heal him.
When the count left, a sort of black shadow had settled on the surface of the young man's skin. The dragon saw it too, but no matter what he did to chase away the mist, it remained.
—
A few minutes later, several people burst into the room. The little dragon eyed them suspiciously. He finally calmed down when he recognized among them the doctor who had treated his human when he was injured by that bastard Venion's laquer. He then let them be.
The doctor immediately approached the redhead, while the priest seemed to hesitate.
"What are you doing?!" The doctor turned to the other man, annoyed. As soon as he placed his hands on the young master's body, he sensed the urgency of the situation. Divine powers would certainly be necessary if they wanted him to survive.
"...The god of death... look at this." The priest pointed at the unconscious young master. The doctor frowned, in his frenzy, he hadn't noticed the strange black smoke. He cautiously took a step back and looked at the man of the cloth. Now that he looked at him more closely, the man seemed to be covered in cold sweat.
"What is this? A curse?" He was confused but also alarmed.
"No, it's not negative, and it's too powerful to be the power of a mere member of a church. It's as if the god of death himself is trying to keep him alive." The priest looked at Cale with fear and admiration. What could the young master have done to attract the attention of a god? And above all, what did this mean? He had to report this discovery to his church, he was part of the church of the god of death himself.
"How is he?" Deruth tried to break the strange atmosphere that had reigned since the priest's words. He had arrived with the two other men, but he hadn't dared speak for fear of provoking the hidden child's reaction again. He had, of course, seen the strange phenomenon, but hadn't said anything. Having spoken with the strange god himself, he could only agree with the priest, but he preferred to say nothing. Who knows what these people would think if they learned that the Henituse family had a connection with a god...
"He has lost a lot of blood and appears to be suffering from internal injuries in addition to severe burns to his hands."It was the doctor who answered him. Deruth looked at the body on the bed. He couldn't forget the god's words, but he couldn't blame the young man either. He was innocent, and more than a victim in this story.
"Can you heal him?" He couldn't lose him now that he still had so much to ask of him. No, who was he kidding? That wasn't the only reason.
"We'll do our best." The doctor turned to the priest, who hadn't yet moved, to pull him towards the young master.
The priest hesitantly placed his hands on the young master, before abruptly moving away. They could all see the strange smoke disappear. They needed no further explanation to understand what had happened: the god's power was gone.
The two healers quickly snapped out of their stupor and began their work when they saw Cale begin to writhe in pain.
---
It took one hour to complete their treatment. They were completely exhausted, but they still had to submit their report.
Deruth, who hadn't moved the entire time, watched hopefully as the doctor approached him. "He is doing better, his life is no longer in danger, but he needs rest. I would urge you to contact me immediately if there are any further injuries. You must have seen the burns on his hands, they're quite extensive and, with his illness, it's always useful to think that there could be others hidden away. Besides, this isn't the first time this has happened. I'd advise you to pay more attention to your son if you don't want to lose him." Anyone could have heard the doctor's reproach, but the man wasn't entirely wrong.
"Thank you for your help."
"Don't thank me, it's only thanks to the god of death that your son is still alive. We believe he's the one who kept him alive. You see, his internal bleeding wasn't that serious, but he had been left unattended for too long. Besides, he hadn't taken his medication since the day he lost consciousness. These two factors could have killed him, but someone else intervened." The doctor's tone was harsh. After the problems at the palace, he had decided to become the young master's personal physician. The count was looking for someone after having to call several people during their trip to the capital and even after he arrived. Having someone to follow Cale at all times was easier, and there was no need to repeat the explanations each time. Of course, the young man still didn't know. He had only just taken up his duties after the count was informed of the incident at the palace and Young Master Neo's arrest. Now he had to speak to Young Master Cale and his family so that they would be extra careful and leave no stone unturned.
Deruth didn't reply, he was well aware of that. He made a note to thank the god of death later.
"Let me know when the young master is awake, I'd like to speak to him." The doctor left, almost slamming the door in frustration.
The Count watched him leave. He seemed to have hired someone with a strong personality.
