Chapter 12: Rank up!

Arnold frowned at the map before him, his spies had let him know the west army of Elysium was doing a monster subjugation close to their border, it was a partial lie, obviously. Yes, they could be taking care of the once a decade flood which that part of Elysium seemed to be plagued with, as it was due to happen. However, that was not the only reason to move the army closer towards their boarder without arousing too much suspicion, since the Emperor title had changed hands a little over a decade ago, they had started expanding their Empire again by invading and taking over the smaller countries that touched their boarder. He knew they were ramping up for a full-blown takeover of the last few countries on that side of the continent.

His uncle also looked at the map as did his prime minster.

"The flood will happen soon; they will not invade this year, but it is a good reason to move his army." Jackson declared and he was correct, once the flood was dealt with, they would then need to handle the materials as well as rest and relax after the hard work before returning. Giving the army an excuse to linger in the area.

"Is there a reason Matt isn't here?" Arnold asked Leeanne, he had made a habit to have the four country guild masters attend these meetings to get the opinion of the independent organisations and where they stood as well as to give them all fair warning of what was happening so they could prepare. Most Kingdoms however did not employ this system as it was unique to Ashford.

"Yeah, where is Matt?" Curtis asked, he had been aware of the secret dealings of the Empire so already had plans in place and done the calculations needed to keep the economy from stalling and people starving.

The Crafters guild master Isaac wasn't curious, he was busy trying to calculate the goods needed to be made if Ashford went to war. Carol the guild master of the pharmacist guild was also busy writing lists of the things needed to mass produce potions.

Leeanne sighed, she hated meetings, "Matt is away on guild business."

That had everyone's attention, Matt rarely left the capital as there was very few, guild related business, which would warrant him leaving the capital. It left the other guild masters wondering what was so important to call him away. Curtis quickly made the connection, the reason why Matt would leave the capital, "Astra and Jayda are back?" he declared as well as questioned.

"Yes," Leeanne stated seeing no point in hiding what Matt was doing.

"To rank up?" Curtis asked, if the two women ranked up to S, it might really stall Elysium's invasion plans.

"Yes, Astra and Jayda are back, yes Matt has gone to confirm their statuses and preform the rank up of them to S-rank." Leeanne told the room.

Isaac sighed and relaxed a little as did Carol, they would still make the preparations but having 2 S-ranks in the country should make Elysium pause and reconsider, giving them precious time.

"Already?" Arnold asked surprised, he knew that they were returning to Astra's clan land to run a S ranked dungeon. Travelling that distance took time, although Jayda's magic could easily have eased the passage. Then actually clearing the dungeon, for two people alone, should have taken a significant amount of time. Which is why he hadn't been expecting them back until next year if they were lucky.

Leeanne nodded. "Yes already."

"Okay, are they here just to rank up or have they made Ashford their base?" Isaac asked, he was a crafter through and through, he was only interested in working with wood which is why he didn't do politics nor gossip.
