Chapter 30: Winter with the Clan.
Ingrid watched in shock a few days later as a group of her clan mates fought against Dawn and Erin, six verses two. They were a seasoned group, able to get all the way to the third field floor in an S rank dungeon, they were no weaklings. However, both Dawn and Erin danced around them like they were amateurs instead of seasoned Water Wolves. Dawn shifted and her shield slammed into the side of a sword user as Erin's practice sword sent another to the ground, both Erin and Dawn moved to change their positions.
She was trying to understand, how the pair moved, how they reacted to each other, always aware of the other yet always aware of their enemy at the same time. It was all done so elegantly as well; it was more like an elaborate sword dance than actual battle, but the pair were fighting, and her clan mates were looking like amateurs instead of experienced fighters!
Astra chuckled as she watched Ingrid get more irritated the more, she watched the duo dance, and she wasn't exaggerating, around her people. "Add Rhia in and a whole Wolf Ship still won't stand a chance." She taunted, proud of the pair's growth, both as a pair and as individuals.
Dawn quickly stepped away from her fight and changed positions, to engage the next person instead of letting them come to her. Again, it was against the normal fighting style of a tank type, it was closer to a sword and shield user except Dawn would suddenly throw in skills and moves tanks exclusively used and she used them well as she even managed to knock down the Mountain with a charge which had shocked them all.
"She's a tank, not a sword and shield, right?" Ingrid asked, except for a shield charge, tanks were generally slow moving because they wore heavy gear, their whole fighting style was to be there to take a hit, to hold an enemy to allow attackers to hit the vulnerable flanks. Dawn however was moving with a speed and gracefulness that was unheard of for her kind of style.
"Yes, Dawn is a tank, however, that style of fighting, she figured it out herself, she shed her full plate armour to help her speed and trained her non-attribute reinforcement magic to make up for the short fall." Jayda explained.
"Why not just move to a different style?" Ingrid asked.
"Because she has the skill Fortress, she is a tank, she could take a hit from a troll and shrug that off like she was hit with a feather pillow." Jayda answered. "However, a dicey situation made her realise that if she continued to rigidly hold to her type she would die. Ever since she changed her way of thinking she has grown."
"Yeah, and between us," Astra leant in to talk to Ingrid. "Although cumbersome, Rhia enjoys seeing Dawn in her plate armour."
"If plate armour is so bothersome wouldn't Barbarian style armour be better for her?" Ingrid asked as she continued to watch the fight, others of her clan were watching just as attentively.
Jayda shook her head, "no, because she is still a tank, I made her armour similar to Cait's, allows her flexibility and gave her back the security of full plate armour. It now allows her to reinforce her strength or speed or even attack."
"I want them, I'll even take the Menace if it means getting them." Ingrid told Jayda seriously, the little party of High beings have already brought innovative ideas to her clan, they were growing, and she was enjoying watching it happen. Everyone in the clan had quickly learnt that Koa was dangerous in a way that they weren't used to, they had nick named her the Menace and if anyone showed up dishevelled or covered in something and said they had a run in with the Menace everyone knew they had run afoul of Koa's luck. The clan were quickly learning what they needed to do to avoid it, but they couldn't always do it, however they took it in good humour and even laughed about it because as long as they were friendly with Koa, her luck wasn't malicious.
