Chapter 5: The capitol.
A week and a half later they topped a rise, and the capital was finally before them, the city was large and protected by impressive walls. They had made suitable time as they still had a good couple of weeks before the auction started. After that attack, the journey had turned back into quite a normal and mostly uneventful trip. The survivors were finally starting to realise that they were safe and free and as such were starting to come out of their shells and show their personalities as they started to help with tasks around the camp although they were never forced to.
Apart of Adventurer training, both through the books and a guild course was a list of things they needed to do when they came across victims like they did and more importantly what they should not do. Most parties had at least one non-intimidating member in them, they were to have the most contact in the beginning until trust had been established. They were not to ask questions other than for their name and if anyone was missing, after that they were meant to meet their needs as best, they could and get them to the nearest guild to be debriefed by experts. The only exception was if the person they had saved was dying, they were allowed to question them to find out any information to try to catch the person who hurt them and free others.
The survivors were under the protection of the Capital Adventurer Guild, which was the reason they had not been dropped off at a guild along the way. When they got there, they would be housed, questioned, and have their identity cards re-issued. The guild would also make sure they got healthy, found jobs, homes and even reconnect families if possible. As an independent third party, they were often trusted with such matters, more so because they were normally the ones who saved the rescued, so they had a repour. In this case they also had evidence that Ashford Nobles were involved in the matter which was why this was a Capital Branch issue.
Slowly the caravan made their way down the hill, Jayda's hood was up, and a cloth wrapped around her lower face to hide her identity, she had been wearing it ever since the attack, Astra had recommended it even though Jayda thought it was a little late but did it anyway. They had to move slower as there were other users on the road. The large caravan drew attention for many reasons, first was it was led by a pair of magnificent War Horses. The next was the size, it was almost as big as an inspection procession and since there were knights, they could safely assume a Noble was in the group.
Jayda had sent forward a scout to let the guild know they would need assistance when they arrived so Jayda was not surprised to see a large group of royal knights approach them as well as Adventurers who calmly helped people clear the road so that the caravan could advance, since they only used this method for extreme reasons people didn't argue the actions.
The knights were a little in awe of the two War Horses as they came up to them, even for War Horses the pair were magnificent. "We are here to escort you to the adventurer's guild."
"Lead the way," Jayda told them, her voice muffled, and they nodded, the knights moved out through the entire column so that they could help guide, the leader of the order positioned themselves before Jayda and Astra and raised his hand to indicate them to move forward.
"CARAVAN HO!" Astra bellowed and they all moved forward. Half an hour later they came to a stop in the vacant field next to the guild which was used for caravans. The royal knights moved to block entrance to keep people who weren't involved back. Jayda dismounted, "Thanks Onyx, you can rest in my shadow for now." Onyx gave her a kiss before he vanished into her shadow. During their trip Jayda had taught Astra how to use the new magic that came with the taming skill she had gained, dark magic and taming magic. Dark Magic was used to 'store' contracted monsters when they weren't needed, she also learnt summoning magic as she now had the affinity.
