Hi Peeps
I guess you all thought I had put the wrong date up, something I have done in the past, technically I should be posting the 20/10/24 as tomorrow would be my normally scheduled release day. However, I am working tomorrow and watching a few scary movies with friends tonight, I don't want to force myself to wake up early tomorrow, so... you get the chapter a day early.
Hope you all have fun now.
Chapter 35: The Dragon Slayers.
They came to a small crest before the capital and stopped at a small clearing to prepare for their approach. The city was expecting them and more than that it was expecting them to come in victorious. They spent twenty minutes checking their gear and preparing. The knights also prepared, one was going to carry Tomas's banner while the others were carrying their Lord's banner and would be at the rear.
Jayda checked her clan over and the monsters who were out of shadows. Saga decided to stay in Jayda's shadow and Imp decided to stay in Leeanne's as both monsters had not been a part of the Evil Dragon fight and were willing to leave the praise for the ones who had fought. Kree had also decided to stay in Jayda's shadow but her reason for doing so was more practical because she was too big even in her small form to fly in the city. The four Misfits were gathered in a circle and playing a game of knife, paper, rock to see who would get the honour of carrying the clan's banner and who would carry the totem.
They could have brought out the Evil dragon and dragged that as well but had decided against it as it would drive the citizens into a frenzy. In the end it came down to Erin and Dawn, Dawn won the banner which left Erin with the totem. Ink was sitting on Storm's rump and giving himself a final groom before he jumped down and made himself bigger, to around the size of a forest lion. Archer was perched on Dream's rump and waiting.
Erin and Dawn mounted, once she was settled, Dawn put her shield on then reached for the banner with her shield arm which Frey handed her, it was white cloth with their clan mark in green and blue. Dawn put the pole down on the spot on her stirrup for it. Astra handed the totem to Erin and Erin also put the butt of the totem, a carved head of a War Horse, on the spot on her stirrup.
Once the two Misfits were settled in the rest mounted up. "Koa you stay between Astra and Frey." Jayda ordered and Koa nodded and moved her horse to between the two women. Jayda glanced around for a moment making sure everyone was ready before she stood in the stirrups and held up a hand, "Caravan..." she started, and Astra glared at her and flicked some ice at her. Jayda wiped the mushy ice off her neck and changed what she was about to say. "Let's go Rumble!" she called as she dropped her hand, and they all started to move forward.
They rode down the hill and towards the outer wall. Members of the city guard rode out to greet them and surrounded the group to help guide and protect them as they moved through the city.
They were led into the city; the streets were lined with citizens who cheered. Garnet, not impressed with all the noise let out snort laced with flames, Leeanne patted his neck to calm him a little.
"Wave!" Tomas told the women before him a little irritated however he understood that the women weren't really for praise like this. The members of Rumble started to wave, even Archer lifted a leg to wave at people.
They moved through the city, waving to the citizens who were in a festive mood, the king had declared a festival to happen when Rumble came to the capital, to celebrate their accomplishment, since there were no records of sapiens taking out a Dragon since Rhianna herself and she had killed a Variant, not an Ancient.
They made it to the castle and the members of Rumble finally relaxed. Matt, Arnold, and Kathryn were waiting for them, Jayda dismounted first and moved to stand before her clan, she bowed her head to Arnold in respect and he nodded his head and waved his hand, dismissing the need for formality.
