Chapter - 27

"Accha!... Chaliye hum nikalte hai!" HM sighed, her heart yearning for the presence of the one person who seemed to complete the station.

It seems like HM and KS had a great trip together, providing them with a much-needed break from their usual routines. They returned feeling refreshed and ready to tackle their respective tasks. However, the days are flying by quickly, and KareEna are both engrossed in their work.

Despite the fact that they have the opportunity to meet, they still haven't been able to. HM has a busy schedule, with daily visits to MPT to check on MIRA's progress. This seems to be a clever way for HM to try to meet KS. However, it appears that they keep missing each other. Whenever HM goes to MPT, KS is either on her rounds or has gone to headquarters. When HM inquires about KS, she's consistently told that KS is tied up with a high-profile case assigned by the DSP, making it impossible for them to meet.

Despite these circumstances, KareEna's communication remains consistent, with HM sending messages at night and KS responding during the day. However, KS's messages are typically short and lack any initiative to engage in a deeper conversation. It's always HM who initiates the conversations.

Whenever HM brings up the idea of meeting in person, KS consistently cites the ongoing case as the reason why they can't. This situation is driving HM to the brink of insanity. Her frustration is mounting as she yearns for KS's company desperately. Her mind and heart seem to be in conflict, struggling to cope with the situation. This yearning to be with KS, coupled with KS's apparent indifference, is taking a toll on HM. KS's decision to create distance between them is causing HM considerable anguish. Although HM tries to push these thoughts aside, it's proving to be much harder than when Anubhav started ignoring her. The situation with KS is different. HM genuinely wants to be with KS, and her heart is pleading for some semblance of peace, or at the very least, an understanding of the reason behind KS's sudden change in behavior.

A week has passed in this manner, with KS intentionally evading HM whenever she attempts to meet up, actively working to keep a distance between them. Unfortunately, the last time KareEna saw each other's faces was on the final day of their trip, and their last phone call in the night remains their most recent conversation.

On fine day in HM's office:

"Yaa Khuda! Aise toh kabhi khatam nahi hoga ye kaam," HM mumbles in frustration, releasing a sigh as she rests her head on the desk.

NM, passing by, notices her friend and senses that something has been bothering HM since her return from the trip. She approaches HM and gently places a hand on her shoulder, asking, "Haseen...? Haseena, are you okay?"

HM lifts her head and musters a fake smile. "Yes? Why are you asking??"

"Per mujhe lag nahi raha? Tum thik ho? Any problem?", NM inquires with concern.

"Nahi bas woh workload ke wajah se baki kuch nahi!", HM replies, this time attempting a genuine smile.

"Well thik hai man lete hai! Chalo hume Aaj bahar lunch pe jana hai", NM suggests.

"Kiu?? Koi khas baat jo Aaj hume aap lunch keliye bahar leja rahi hai?", HM asks playfully.

"Nahi yaar mein kaha Mrs Sharma ki tarah se hai ye lunch party on the occasion of her Anniversary", NM explains

"Hume nahi ana kahi jao tum!", HM protests.

"Chalna yaar yaha baithe baithe bore hogi toh thoda sa fresh ho jayegi! Let's go lunch break meine hi hai bas! Don't waste the time", NM says drags HM with her outside.
