"The Reiss family is the true royal bloodline."

***

The government was counterfeit.

While my mind played on the thoughts, I couldn't help but sit here and sneak glances at the blonde girl who sat across the room, fidgeting mindlessly with her hands and holding her gaze on the floor. I sat at the foot of my bed that was beside Eren's, the brunette passed out beneath the covers, soft breaths passing through his slightly parted lips. Snores, not loud but still audible, occurred on the opposite of Eren's bed, a mess of short light brown strewn across the pillow. And on a chair not too far from Jean was Armin, who's hands wielded that of a rifle.

I leaned forward, elbows planted on my knees and my head in my hands. The law we had all been living under was all a lie. And to think the girl who sat approximately ten feet away from me at this moment was likely the one person who could claim the crown and rule over the walls herself, that fact was unbelievable in itself.

Suddenly, Eren shot up in his bed, hair disheveled and a troubled expression playing across his features as he looked down at his bed, trying to process something. Next thing I know, he's vanished from the flurry of blankets he left in his wake, Jean sitting up from his own slumber and watching as the teal eyed boy practically flew across the room and down the stairs.

"That's right, before I forget!" He exclaimed on his short journey to wherever it was he was headed, I eyed the empty staircase, the same exact spot he was just seconds before. I stood up with a sigh, waving nonchalantly at the rooms remaining occupants before I descend the staircase and into the main room of the building.

The cabin was eerily still, not even the small visible particles of dust that floated around the air seemed to move at all, almost as though time had stood still the moment I stepped foot into the room. Where Eren had disappeared off to was now a mystery, either I hadn't been paying attention to the sounds that happened in the building, or he was just that stealthy to go where he went.

With the cabin being as old as it looked, not even the tiniest floorboard creaked in sync with the gust of wind that managed to blow by the place, all up until a loud crash came from downstairs. My head snapped in the direction, my mind telling me to check out of an urgent curiosity. Hurrying down the stairs, taking a turn and throwing one of the doors open, I find Eren standing near the bottom of the stairs with a folded up piece of paper pinched between his fingers and a table with a set of chairs thrown across the room.

"What happened?" I ask, voice surprisingly small, feeling the urgency decrease as I notice Eren's form staying in a docile state as he peeked around the corner of the room.

"Hange? What happened?" He repeated my words I don't think he heard. I step down, inching towards the boy and appearing beside him, gently placing a hand on his shoulder to acknowledge my own presence in the room. He didn't flinch, eyeing the glass eyed brunette who only turned and looked between the two of us, putting on a fake smile before bending over to pick a chair up.

"There were cockroaches." She lied, the bead of sweat sliding from her forehead speaking louder than her words. "Of course there would be, in a ruined place like this. I just obliterated them, not a trace of them left. What refreshing morning, but it's still early. What are you doing awake?" She asked, hastily changing the topic before we could even get started on it, watching as Eren held up the piece of paper he had in hand.

"It's a bit late now but I've been thinking back to my previous conversations with Bertholdt and Ymir and began writing them here." He said offering it out to her as she stepped forward, nearly snatching the paper out of his hand and reading it in an eerie silence. It turned uncomfortably tense in the room, both the teal eyed boy and I nervously watching Hange reading the words that were spread before her on the written conversation before her. Her eyes shifted upwards after what seemed like forever, a distant look in her expression before she snapped herself back to reality.
