"Kai's really going all out to impress you, isn't he?"

Evie teased her best friend, while they dipped tea on the couch. Rhea updated Evie about her date with Kai last night. He tried to cook her a romantic dinner but ended up setting off the smoke alarm in his apartment. The fire department had to show up, and it became a good show for everyone. Later they had to order pizza and watch movie, which was supposed to be a romantic comedy but they ended up watching Pride and Prejudice because Rhea wanted to punish Kai for the smoke blunder. Kai was not a fan of classic romance and she knew exactly how to torture him.

"If I had a dime for every time Kai sent me an emoji, I'd be a billionaire by now. That man's got a heart of gold and an emoji for every occasion."

Rhea's voice echoed through the room, her energy infectious.

Evie looked up from her paperwork she was doing along with enjoying tea with her best friend, her lips curving into a small smile at Rhea's quirkiness, "It's clear he's smitten with you. You've already got him wrapped around your finger, Rhea."

Rhea grinned, "Who knew emojis could be the way to a man's heart?" She let out a laugh. "I'm telling you, Evie, men are the simplest riddle ever created. A few emojis here, a well-placed laugh there, and voilà, they're yours."

Evie burst into laughter, the sound filling the room with warmth. "I've never seen you like this, babe. It's adorable!"

Rhea passed her a cheesy smile. In just a few days, Rhea had found herself drawn to Kai in a way that was entirely unexpected. His company was like a breath of fresh air. She enjoyed his presence, his sense of humor, and the way he made her laugh.

"I'm sure Damien would never make that kind of mistake. He's probably a bit more skilled in the culinary arts than Kai."

Evie rolled her eyes, her mind going back to the evening when she shared an emotional moment with Damien in the kitchen. Rhea saw the shift of expression on Evie's face, "Maybe you should invite him to dinner and ask him to cook for you."

Evie shook her head with a soft smile. "Rhea, he's already done so much for me. I have to give the guy a little rest; otherwise, he might get fed up with seeing me every day."

"Oh, come on. If anyone can handle your daily presence, it's Damien."

Evie shivered as a cold wave hit the open window.

The change in seasons was evident as October set in, heralding the approach of Halloween. New York City was in a state of transformation. Pumpkins lined the streets, their warm orange hues contrasting with the gray of the city. Storefronts displayed spooky decorations, and costume shops sprang up in every corner, eager to cater to Halloween enthusiasts.

The subtle chill in the wind carried the promise of autumn, painting the city in vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold.

A few days had passed since that night when Evie had laid her heart open to Damien and he had cared for her, letting their professional relationship blur.
