The next morning, Evie woke to the familiar sound of Natasha Bedingfield's 'Unwritten' echoing through the palace, blaring from the speakers. She stretched lazily in bed, still half-asleep, but a smile tugged at her lips as the upbeat melody filled the room as she realised what was happening.
Throwing off the covers, Evie sat up, her tousled hair falling around her shoulders as she yawned and rubbed her eyes. The sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow over her room.
She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and slipped into her slippers, the music coaxing her awake and dashed down the grand staircase to the main hall. There, she found her parents, already dressed in their jogging attire, grinning widely as they noticed their daughter's arrival. She rushed to them, their smiles melting her heart.
With a hug for her father and a kiss on his cheek, Evie was immediately swept into a dance by her father's outstretched hand, moving joyfully to the lyrics of the song. Her laughing filled in the main hall.
Damien, just waking up and clad in his nightwear, wandered into the main hall and witnessed the enchanting scene. His gaze fixed on Evie, who danced freely in her nightwear, her smile, radiant and carefree, transformed her into a different Evangeline—a princess glowing with happiness.
Julian remarked with a fond smile, "The royal walls have missed scenes like these."
Edward nodded in agreement, adding solemnly, "Only the princess could bring back such light to their world."
The trio—King Nicholas, Queen Anastasia, and Princess Evangeline—sang at the top of their lungs to the chorus of the song, filling the hall with their laughter and harmony.
Evie spotted Damien watching her and smiled at him.
Just as they were lost in their dance, they heard another voice joining in from the entrance. Turning, they saw Theodore standing there with a wide smile, singing along with them.
Evie squealed in delight and broke free from her father's embrace, rushing to Theo. She jumped into his arms, wrapping him in a tight hug.
Theo laughed and spun her around, both of them singing loudly, "Feel the rain on your skin, no one else can feel it for you, only you can let it in..."
Theo set Evie down gently, and hand in hand, they walked over to join their parents. The king and Queen welcomed them with open arms. The king twirled Evangeline with grace, and the Queen followed suit with her son, their laughter blending with the music.
In that moment, there was no royalty, no palace protocol—just a family reveling in the simple pleasure of being together. They danced until the final notes faded away.
Evie pulled Theo into a heartfelt embrace, whispering, "I missed you so much."
Theo chuckled softly, ruffling her hair affectionately. "I missed you more, firefly."
