He threw his phone on the kitchen island, grumbling underneath his breath, and cursed you inside his mind. You and your habit of not telling him whenever you left the apartment, your existence would be the death of him for sure. He was only your roommate, and your friend for the last couple of months he lived with you, but he felt like he deserved to know where you were.
Grey sweat was the only thing clad in his body right now, not bothering to grab a shirt when he called out to you and received no answer. His mind went a hundred miles per second, always worried about your whereabouts, despite knowing you had pepper spray and brass knuckles in your bag to protect yourself.
However, after the time he found you sitting in your recording room with gloom on your visage, and silent tears slowly cascading down your cheeks, it felt like something had touched his heart. It sprouted from him after that moment. The need to protect you from the world, from those who would do you harm.
That was why he got somewhat overprotective of you, always wanting to know where you go and who you are hanging out with. So maybe if you ever needed help, he could come to your rescue without having a second to waste.
Deep in thought, Jean raised one of his eyebrows and growled when he realised what he did. On the countertop now, there were two cups of coffee, a habit he gradually got ever since he knew you. Everything in his life became two. Coffee in the morning, hot chocolate before sleep, takeaway when both of you were too lazy to cook.
Hell, even when he was in the grocery store, he would buy your amenities too.
Letting out a sigh, he opened the fridge and settled the other cup there, knowing it would be gone when the sun scorched the earth and you needed something cold to quench your thirst. Well, you could have drunk him up. He groaned at the way his brain tried to force a boner every chance they got. And it got worse in the morning.
His ringtone suddenly blared in the room, waking him up from the dangerous reverie, and he thanked God that his morning was saved. The Darth Vader theme, the music that made his skin crawl, urged him to pick up the phone without wasting even a second. He stretched his arm, swooping his phone from the kitchen table.
"Where are you, princess?" He yawned since he hadn't drunk his coffee yet. Voice sounded gruff and huskier than usual. "You better not ignore my message again, I swear—"
"I, well, Jean?" You sounded timid, like you were holding back something. And that was enough to turn his slight irritation to full-blown worry. "Uh, I am sorry. You must still be half-asleep. It's nothing!" And he always hated it when you became like this. Calling him up, or wanting to say something, but stopped midway.
"If you ended the call, I would move out for real."
"No!" Maybe he was being mean to tease you like that. Yet the satisfaction he felt every time he listened to your answer was always worth it. "Sorry, it's just that, uh, I have a condition here, in the parking lot." He raised one of his eyebrows at that, sipping his coffee as he waited for you to elaborate more. "Just, can you please get here? In my usual parking spot."
"And what can I get in return?" He already put his cup down, long legs trotting towards his bedroom as he fetched a clean shirt. A small chuckle left his lips when you groaned at him.
"I will let you choose dinner for the next three days...?"
"Really? Just that? Come on, princess. You can do better. I thought you were a generous person. Nada, not really, eh?" Jean could picture your face. Those pretty eyes rolled from left to right, and lips jutted out because of irritation. "I don't know what I have to do down there. You could have tried to make me lift new furniture or something."
