You rarely believed in fate before. There were a lot of things you could do in this world, and you were the only one who had control over it, not your parents or even the deity. When you wanted something, you would give your best, making sure they were finally within your reach, and one day you only needed to reap what you sow.
But when someone broke your heart, you started to wonder what you did wrong.
Ever since you met him, you started to follow the things he liked. You bought a guitar, attending a private class just so you could have a topic to talk about with him. Then when you realised the three of them were a bond that would not shatter, not even letting another slip in between completely, you changed your course.
Mixing and mastering, supporting them by listening to their records for hours, up all night just to make sure everyone could hear the perfection in the melody they had created with each of their instruments.
The routine you had with them goes on until the four of you enrolled in university. They started to have gigs, paid for by singing in a bar. Just in Shiganshina at first, then slowly spread all over Maria. When you asked if there was anything you could help with, he started to decline, saying how you only needed to focus on your study.
It was for your own good, you believed. College was nothing like secondary school, after all. Each meeting with the lecturers would be filled with assignments, the books you needed to read not just one or two, but up to five for one course.
With that thought in mind, how could you think he just didn't need you anymore? Or what you quoted from him, he didn't love you anymore.
You were always so positive, thoroughly thinking about anyone else first before you. But when he started to detach himself, when the first love you knew didn't even spare you a glance in between lunch and dinner, when the only man you gave yourself to suddenly cast you to the side — you couldn't help yourself.
A part of you wanted to believe that he was just stressed, mind predominating with gigs and works that never seemed to end. Then again, it wasn't supposed to be an excuse, not when he usually talked it out with you, not when he was your lover.
So, when he finally snapped at your plea and questions, you understood well.
"Hey, you ready?"
A gravelly yet tender voice slowly pulled you back from your stupor. You looked up, finding someone who was there with you for the last two years. Almost three now, when you think about it. It was almost three years since the time you sang your heart out in a hallway of your campus, only for him to catch you off guard.
"Just a few minutes more, yeah?" You let out a small chuckle, and even though you thought you were confident with it, he apparently could see through your facade. "Don't worry, I got it."
You let out a yelp when he suddenly pinched your cheek, not expecting him to do that since he looked so calm and in a kind mood. "Jean, what are you—"
"You are nervous and that's alright, you know?" Your heart skipped a beat at that, at how he was able to read your expression. "This is your first on-stage gig at a hotel, but..." He trailed off, lifting your chin even more with his fingers. "I know you will do great, Princess." Sending a tingle down your spine, warming you up entirely.
He pressed his palm against your cheek, and you couldn't stop yourself from leaning in. After that drunken night, nothing stopped you and him from finally revealing what each other desired. At first, he surely never expected himself to fall for you. He was just in his second year of college, wanting to leave the dormitories but not knowing where to go since the apartments near the campus were full.
