Undercover

Chapter Nine

Officers ran into the room with guns and told us to stay down. My heart pounded as I reached for something. Sock.
"Sock!"
I got up and ran to the doors. Before I could get out an officer pulled me back, his grip firm on my arms
"Miss back away-"
"Let go of me!"
I shoved him off and ran down the hallway. I skidded by dorms until I reached mine, Already open.
"Sock, where a-are you?"
"Meow!"
I ran in and looked frantically around the room. Flipping over chairs and looking under the bed I started to track the meows.
"SOCK!"
He walked up to me and threw himself into my lap. He licked his paw and buried himself into my arms.
"Oh my god that was so close eh?"
"Meow, meow meow."
"Twos a team Sock."
He got off my lap and headed for the door. Zachary stood in front of me in his office guard uniform.
"You're not in the lab, god I was so worried Kai-"
"Please just stop talking. I was so ready to leave until this stupid alarm came on."
"You were going to leave!"
His voice filled the room, leaving small sound waves along with it. Oh god. He slumped his gun over his shoulder, his gaze piercing my eyes. I hate to admit, I was some what nervous on his reaction.
"Yes! Because you're driving me insane! Maddie hates me because she thinks that I want you, out of all people, to be my boyfriend. Well guess what, I DONT!"
The sprinklers went off as the entire floor started to rumble and break.
"Who said anything about me being your boyfriend, your you."
My cheeks began to turn red. His words sunk into me as I backed away. He looked at me, simply regretting the words that have come out of his mouth.
"Kaitlyn-"
"How could I be so stupid-"
A piece of the ceiling came off and landed behind me.
"Meow!"
I grabbed sock and went back into the dorm room.
"Crap."
The floor was filling up with water and I was to short to hold both me and sock. The water was already up to my knees. All of a sudden Zachary picked me up and rushed me and sock out of the dorm.
"Zachary let go of-"
"Do you want to live or not!" He said over the sound of gushing water.
I nodded and with that he continued to run. He ran down the hall, water rising quickly. Sock clawed his way onto my backpack and dug his nails into it. Zachary accidentally fell and sent me and sick flying forward.
"Zachary!"
The water in caved him as me and sock were pushed back. The water gushed forwards, causing me and sock to drift away. Sock and I floated far away from my dorm, from Zachary.
Zachary, where is he?
"Zachary ?" I cried out.
As I was searching around the water I saw his gun float to the top. I gasped covering my mouth. His gun was here... but he wasn't.
"No.... oh god no Zachary!" I screamed.
My voice echoed through the halls, the water continued to flow sending me farther away from the dorms. Sock held onto my backpack, despite us being soaked with water. My chest felt compressed as I realized Zachary wasn't coming back. The water began to drain, leaving me on the floor cradling sock, fighting back tears.
"Please don't be dead... Please don't be dead." I whispered to myself.
Suddenly a pair of flashing lights shine right in my face.
"Kaitlyn, oh my lord I found you!"
Becca wrapped her arms around my waist as she petted sock. I remembered that Zachary was taken away towards the laboratory, where Becca was at the time. My eyes lit up as I quickly stood up. I held on the Becca's arm.
"Zachary ... oh my god Zachary! Becca take me to Zachary-"
"Wait no slow down-"
"Becca take me to him I have to see him now!" I said excitedly.
Becca looked at me, her expression softened. Her eyes became glossy. She squeezed my arms softly before letting go.
"Honey..... Zachary didn't come back to the laboratory."
I let out a small chuckle, then I began to laugh. She was kidding.. right? Becca looked at me with such empathy I knew she was telling the truth. My heart sank and I began to shake my head. He was apart of the troops, of course he could've met with one of the officers.
"Check the troop officers maybe they saw him-"
"Honey.. oh my god they already sent trackers. Lord Kaitlyn they didn't find any living substance in the entire base."
My hands froze in place as I collapsed to the floor, water making its way across my palms and fingers.
"No." I gasped.
"Oh god.." I said weakly.
My hand slammed the floor as I held Beccas hand. The guards stood above from me and Becca watching me breakdown as the water swayed and splashed around me. Tears fell from my eyes, and into the pool of water in front of me.
