My breath is ragged. I spent too much time away from my Oregon tank, not to mention Captain Thorne always makes my heart race at an unhealthy pace. I quickly go back to my dorm and inhale the oxygen tank slowly. People could die like this, head quarters are inhuman. I turn on the radio, the announcement blasted out of the station.
"People of the Underground civilization ." Captain Thorne's voice came out of the speakers. His voice was always so succulent and calm, unlike his flirtatious tone he uses when he speaks to me. I turned the volume up.
"We have been building this economy since 3589. People have been cared for, fed, and sheltered after the Great War of Imusation. Our economy has been disturbed by one of our greatest dangers. The Above."
Gasps and cries were heard throughout the Cube Dorm. The Above hasn't been mentioned since the start of the colony. My ears pricked up and I moved closer to the radio.
"And for that we have created a list of various safety precautions. First you will lose all contact with your peers. Stay in your dorms at all times unless regulated to leave by ether myself or one of your assigned service bots."
My heart sank. That couldn't be, I wouldn't be able to see Ammy. The last memory I have of her is our mere fight. He couldn't be serious. My loathe for Captain Thorne grew spaciously. "Second, your oxygen tanks will be limited. It will be enough for you to be able to have a healthy life cycle. Lastly, I have chosen recruits as an addition for the headquarters. Now everyone must be quiet as I read the names of the new recruits. Ian Halsworth. Christina Lively. Rachel Card. Jacob Stanford. And finally, Kaitlyn Greenberg."
My heart stopped. I watched the expression of Captain Thornes face merge into a soft smile. He loves seeing me in a distraught state. My vision began to blur as I felt the hot tears roll down my cheeks. I never wanted to be apart of head quarters, yet see Captain Thorne on a daily basis. I cried out, relieving the pain deep within my chest. This couldn't be happening to me.
"Please with all of our hopes we know you will stay safe and if you have any questions we will happily reply to your comms by email and service lines. That is all."
Shouting arose from the crowds as the council left the stage and was escorted back to the headquarters. The radio program shut down and the line went ecstatic. The Above? People, from the Above. Real People who know what it's like to live in the Above. And me... apart of head quarters?
"Dammit!" I screamed.
The items from my closet flew out as I opened it looking for something to wear. I knew service bots were coming to escort me to head quarters, I needed to get out of here. I found a black hoodie with black jeans and I grabbed my regular old black combat boots. They wouldn't able to notice me with such dark clothing. I quickly got dressed and tied my hair back in a ponytail.
"Sock we have to go, now."
I grabbed Socks traveling carrier and put some treats and a filter for him to snack on and drink. He gave me a small lick on my hand before heading into the carrier. Time was running out and I knew the bots would be here any minute now. I grabbed my hand gun before leaving the room. People were screaming and rushing down the halls and the only light was the red sirens from the security team.
"Shit."
I quickly ducked behind two recycling bins. Dorm rooms were being locked down the hall, only a few dorms away from my room. The teams swarmed into dorms securing it with locks. I watched as one guard locked my dorm and I cursed at myself. They would now I'm gone by now. Service bots lead patients back into the hospital and more guards continuously locked the dorms down. A shadow appeared from the balcony. The same shadow i saw at orientation. It took out something from its pocket. The blue vial. The shadow placed the vial in a tranquilizer gun. A tranquilizer gun? Only high chiefs are allowed to have high tranquilizer guns. Unless... he wasn't apart of the colony at all. The halls became empty and the sirens began to fade. I headed down the halls, pressing the elevator button. I nervously played with my fingers as I waited for the elevator. I looked around. The west wing was eerily quiet. The elevator door opened and I was shoved back against the wall.. Socks carrier slammed against the elevator walls. The figure pushed me against the wall, I started to scream but it's hand covered my mouth. The figure was wearing a mask. I lifted up my free hand and ripped off its mask. A boy no older than 18 stared at me, a gun pointing at my head. He had green eyes, and curly dark chestnut hair.
"Don't move." He said.
His voice was deep and soft and he grabbed my wrists. Probably to make sure I don't punch him, or try to escape. This couldn't be happening, I wouldn't be able to leave at this point.
"Let go of me!" I say.
I sigh as i head the elevator doors close. I try to wriggle out of his grasp but his hands are firmly planted on me pinning me against the wall.
"I said let go of me!"
I kick him in his stomach and he let go of me and groans in pain. The elevator doors open, ii grab Sock's carrier and dash towards the exit down the hall. Suddenly, a sharp pain hits my left calve and I scream falling to the floor. Looking at my leg I see a stimulation bullet, a bullet stimulation without inflicting wounds on the target. My leg starts to swell, I tightly grasp it. I reached the end of the stimulation bullet and pull it out of my calve, gasping in pain. At least it wasn't a яєαℓ bullet. Sock terrified meows fill the hallway. The boy hovers over my limp body gun still in hand. He's panting.
"I warned you but-"
I throw myself at him making him tumble to the floor. I punched him with all my force in his jaw. He stumbles back giving me time to grab the gun. I point it at his temple and he lifts his hands up.
"What do you want from me?" I ask.
His voice is hoarse and in pain as he speaks to me, defeat is recognized as well.
"Get me out of here."
I start to lower the gun as he raises his eyebrow.
" I don't knows where the hell you came from. But, I have a feeling you know something about the above. So,"
I place his gun into my holster.
"Take me to the Above."
