Chapter 4

-------------~-----------------------

Eevee growled.

"Blue," I say slowly, "You are on." Blue smiles again.

"Excellent. 1 on 1 battle, your Eevee against my Larvitar. If you win, the Ground Badge is all yours." Blue explains.

"Okay." I agree. Blue tosses his Pokeball.

"Larvitar! Let's do this!" The little green dinosaur roars and looks determinedly at Eevee, who is trembling with fear.

"You can do this Eevee." I murmur to my uncertain Pokemon. "Eevee! Its your turn!" Eevee scampers to the platform, where Larvitar is glaring evilly at her. Eevee is brave to face that.

"Larvitar!" Blue calls. Larvitar nods and burrows under ground. Eevee looks all around, and then at me. Her eyes are filled with worry.

"Its okay Eevee." I tell her. "Use Pound on the ground." Eevee obeys doubtfully and nothing seems to happen.

"Larvitar!" Blue calls. Eevee looks around wildly as Larvitar spirals up from under her.

"Eeeeeeee!" She wails, as she flies across the room. Larvitar looks at Blue, who smiles and gives his Pokemon a thumbs up.

"Eevee." I call softly. "Eevee are you alright?" Eevee looks at me weakly, then slowly nods.

"Great endurance, Eevee, do you think you can use Fury Swipes on Larvitar?" Hopefully this attack will be enough to do some damage. Eevee nods, then shakily stands up, and whirls towards Larvitar with outstretched claws.

She swipes Larviar furiously, but again, nothing seems to happen. Blue cackles wildly. In frustration, I accidentally freeze his half of the Gym and he stops laughing, and looks confused and frightened all at once.

So now I have 2 choices.

Continue the battle, possibly win, and then Eevee gets injured.

Or forfeit the battle, come back later, and no one gets hurt.

I remember what Nurse Joy says about not testing her too hard.

"Okay." I sigh. "I forfeit. But I'll be back!" I scoop Eevee up, who falls limp in my arms, and I rush out of the gym leaving Blue looking astonished.

Reluctantly I race back to the Pokemon Center. Joy is still looking angry at me.

"How can I help you?" She growls.

"Just heal Eevee." I growl back at her. She gives me the death glare and takes Eevee in the back room. She comes out a moment later and thrusts Eevee over to me. Not accknowledging each other, I take Eevee back to me room. She circles around on my pillow to get comfortable, then falls asleep.

Angrily, I ball my fists together and scream into my mattress. Why did I have to lose that battle? Why did Blue have to pick me right away? Most importantly, WHY WAS THAT LARVATAR SO FREAKING STRONG?

Eevee's eyes flutter open and she gazes at me. The battle flashes through my mind again. I can't let this little fluff ball get hurt again, I think to myself. We'll have to do more training tomorrow. I sigh and lie down next to Eevee.

"What do you want to do, Eevee?" I ask my partner. She yips and curls up on my head.

Thinking about my defeat turns my veins cold. Thinking of Eevee getting hurt makes them freeze. Thinking about my reputation already falling like that...

"Eevee!"

"What is it, Ee-" I gasp before I can even finish the sentence. The room is icy, and I mean it literally. Icicles hang from the ceiling, and every object in the room has a thick shell of ice surrounding it. Snow is gently falling to the floor.
