I woke up to my phone going off, and I looked over and saw it was my grandmother. Smiling, I answered, "Hey Grams." "Hey, little one. I take it. Charles picked you up last night." I giggled."Yes, I was getting ready to catch a cab to take to a hotel till morning when I could meet up with him. I didn't want him to have to pick me up at five in the morning." "Yeah, your gramps told him that, but he insisted. He told your grandfather that there was no way he was letting our little angel stay in a hotel when she had a perfectly good bed waiting for her in her new home."
"He didn't go into detail about why he was there, but it was good since I got to meet his stepson Jean-Luc and his daughter Lacy." "I should have known Jean-Luc gets up at the crack of dawn since he used to work on the farm. It was his and his brother's job to milk the cows." "He did mention he worked on his family farm back in Slidell." "So, what are your plans for today?"
"Well, Lace as she wants to be called told me that we are going to eat breakfast and she is going to introduce me to her bestie Heather." "That is great. Joellen is having a blast watching Melody freak out. She has been running around town trying to find someone who will help her with her homework. Especially now that Lewis's grandparents are telling her that they expect her to ace all her classes since she is going to a community college and not an Ivy League School like you. They expect her to outshine you. I don't think they know you did all her homework."
"Didn't they realize she is not that smart due to her ranking?" My grandmother laughed."Yes, that is why they told her she had to ace her classes. The only people blind are Lewis's parents. Lewis, your mother, stepfather, and Melody told them you were valedictorian, and Melody was ranked second to last because you had an affair with the superintendent of Schools. That you got him to rank her second to last to humiliate her because of the affair."
I shook my head "Damn they really are trying to paint me as the bad guy here." "Yes they are, but don't worry, everyone that matters knows the truth." I could hear giggling in the next room, and I knew it was time to get to unpacking. Smiling, I told my grandmother goodbye and to give everyone that matters hugs from me. I let her know that I was not going to let my family who disowned me get me down. She let me know that she would give everyone hugs and that I definitely needed to go and make new friends.
After hanging up with my grandmother, I took a quick shower, got dressed and headed out to talk to Lace, and met her bestie, Heather. I was not sure what the future held for me, but I knew that I was going to make attending Harvard worth everything I left behind.
JOELLEN POV
It was hilarious watching Melody trying to bribe our classmates to do her homework. Hell, she even tried to bribe someone to pretend to be her and have them attend all her classes so they would take her tests. Even Lewis was trying his best to get someone to help them out. Yet they kept failing left right and center. Those two idiots were so desperate they even approached me, claiming that I could be Melody's maid of honor and that they would set me up so I could live a life of luxury.
No one could believe how stupid they both were when it came to trying to make Melody seem smarter than she was. When they approached me, I told them that Katrina was my bestie and I would never stab her in the back the way they did. They tried telling me they would ruin me in town, and all I did was laugh and remind them I was not going to be in town. Everyone knew where I was accepted to college, but no one knew where I was going to attend, not even Trina.
I have been accepted to CALTECH, MIT, and UTRGV. I knew telling them I would not be in town let them know I turned down UTRGV even though I had a full ride. As for CALTECH, I did not receive any scholarships. MIT gave me a partial scholarship and lucky for me...well more like thank you, Mr. Garza Katrina's father, the rest of my schooling will be paid. The only thing is that I will have to work for his company for the first two years after I graduate.
