"You guys get Morgan while I set the table." Pepper says after we prepared lunch.
Dad and I walk out of the cabin I've called home for the past four years, towards a little tent a few feet away. He claps his hand and yells "Chow time!"
Instead of her running out of her hiding spot like she usually does, we're met with crickets chirping.
With a sigh, I squat in front of the tent and dad followed suit.
"Munchkin?" I called out but she doesn't respond.
"Morguna? Morgan H. Stark. You want some lunch?" Dad asks and almost immediately, she comes out.
"Define lunch or be disintegrated." Her voice comes out muffled because of the helmet she's wearing. She stretched her hands out, the gloves glowing.
I raised my fist playfully, letting it glow, I punched her mask softly and she stumbles back, playing along.
"Pew, pew, pew." She thrusts her hand forward repeatedly, imitating dad's repulsor blast.
With a dramatic fall, I land on my back and she immediately straddles me, raising her glowing hand to my face.
"Surrender now and I will not disintegrate you." She threatened and dad stepped in, with a roll of his eyes.
"Okay, okay." Dad says as he lifts her off me.
"You're no fun." She pouts as dad lifts the helmet off her head.
"And you should not be wearing that, okay? That is part of a special anniversary gift I'm making for Mom." Dad says as I helped myself up.
"Okay." She responds with a mischievous smile.
"There you go. Are you thinking about lunch? I can give you a handful of crickets on a bed of lettuce." Dad asks as I tried to tame her hair.
"No." She says with her face scrunched.
"That's what you want. How did you find this?" Dad asked.
"Garage." She responds.
"Really? Were you looking for it?" Dad asks.
"No." She glanced at me and I raised my brows in amusement. "I found it, though."
"Hmmn."
"You like going to the garage, huh? So does daddy and Smalls. It's fine, actually. Your mom never wears anything I buy her." Dad says as I picked her up.
Dad follows behind us as we headed inside for lunch.
"Maybe because you buy the most ridiculous things ever." I teased and dad's eyes narrowed.
"When have I ever bought anything ridiculous?"
"I don't know, maybe the giant teddy bear from those years ago?" I suggested.
"I want a giant teddy bear."
"No."
"It wasn't ridiculous. She still never told me she liked it."
"Why not?" Morgan whined.
"Because the last time dad got one, our house exploded." I responded, imitating and explosion with my free hand and her eyes widened.
"That might be overstating thing a bit." Dad mumbled.
"No, it's not."
The snap of twigs and the soft humming of a vehicle has us turning, to see a black sleek Audi pull up.
I spotted Steve first, he sends me a soft smile and a nod. Then I spotted Nat and Scott?, what the hell is going on? I thought he was gone too.
Dad takes Morgan from me and when I can't find anything to do with my hands, I clutched my necklace, twirling the pendant. Dad placed a hand on my shoulder leading us inside, the heavy question lingering on both our minds.
