37: Avengers

The heat of the scorching African sun is blocked by various branches. The oxygen was so fresh that I took in a deep refreshing breath.

I recognized this place, this was the place that- that…

My feet carried me quickly towards that particular spot. I come to a stop when I spotted the father and daughter duo, standing there, hugging each other tightly.

Tears filled my eyes and I felt the weight I'd carried on my chest for the past five years leave me.

We did it. They're back.

The both of them parted when dried leaves crunched beneath my boot. They turned to me with shock on their faces

"Lis-"

She leaves her father and jumps into my arms, making me stumble back a little. I held on to her tightly, like she was going to disappear through my hands again, as she sobbed and laughed.

"Oh my God, Lis, what the hell just happened?" She asked. Her blue eyes searching my soot covered face. "Papa just disappeared and then he was just here and all of you were gone, and now you're here, looking all different. Honestly, it's like everytime I see you, you always look different."

I pulled her into another tight hug unable to find the words to respond. I made eye contact with James, who was looking at us softly and he sends me a small nod.

"Yo, what the hell is happening?" I heard Sam's voice call out as I broke the hug.

I let out a small laugh as he walked out of the bushes.

"Come here, you big dufus." I muttered as I pulled him for a hug.

"I don't think I like what's happening now. Get off me Stark." His voice comes out muffled. Despite his words, he hugs me back.

Groot, T and Wanda walks out from another place. Wanda had a somber look on her face while the other two had confused looks plastered on theirs.

'Vision is gone.' she says in my head and my heart sinks.

I realised for her she just lost Vision, twice.

"I am Groot, I am Groot, I am Groot."
[What's happening? I remember calling out to Rocket and now he's gone.]

"It's so good to see you guys. You have no idea how glad I am-"

"Brother!" She ran past me into her brother's arms, hugging him tightly. I smiled softly as my thought drifted to my brother.
Everyone is truly back.

And so is Thanos, if you've forgotten.

That thought wiped the smile off my face and a cold chill runs down my back.

Sam and Wanda noticed my change of mood and their faces morphed into concern. "What's wrong?" Sam asked.

"Since everyone is here, we need back up. It's been five years since you guys were- were gone, but we went back to the past and got the stone and snapped our fingers which brought you guys back. But because it's us and nothing ever goes according to plan, Thanos somehow made it back and now the whole compound is blown up to shambles. And I'm sure he's got an army and we need as much back up as we can get." I rushed out in one breath.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's get everyone." T responded, immediately getting into action.

We all stood where we were directed to stay. A man who introduced himself as the Sorcerer Supreme. He told us to wait for five minutes before his portal appeared to take us to the compound.

"Hello. Steve? Dad?" I called out, tapping my comm repeatedly to see if I could get to them but all I got was static.

"Hey, Cap, you read me?" Sam tried before turning to me. I gestured for him to try again and he does.
"Cap, it's Sam. Can you hear me?"

We see the familiar yellow sparkling portal opening up in front of us.
"On your left." Sam tells him as I let out a deep breath.

Once the portal is opened, T, Shuri, Okoye and I walked through it to see Steve looking more battered than when I left. Thousand and thousand of Thanos' army against us.

Sam flew out above us and surprisingly other portals begin to open up.

People from different locations across the galaxy ready to fight with us and for us. Not too far away from us, a portal from Titan opens and Strange, floats out, followed by Mantis, Drax and PJ. Peter follows too and tears of relief filled my eyes as his mask comes off to reveal his awe struck face.

I could spot Val and the Asgardians, several ravager ships, sorcerers and many people, family and friends we've made over the years.

To think that eleven years ago, it was seven of us defending earth and now, we had an army to defend the universe.

To my left, Giant-Man climbed out of the rubble that was once the building, opening his hand to reveal Bruce, Pietro, Scott and Rocket. Pietro dashed between Wanda and Liv and she hands him a blade from one of her straps.

We're all here.

"AVENGERS!" Steve called out and stretched his hand out. My eyes widened as Mjolnir flew into his awaiting hand.

Ah! I knew it!

"-assemble."

With that, Thor makes a battle cry, so does T and soon all of us were charging towards them. Thanos raised his sword and his army charged for us too, making both forces collide.

We all fought with vigour. We were given a second chance and we're not about to loose it. We fought with anger that had been pent up for five years, we fought with hatred as our fuel and we'll be damned if we didn't fight till the last man standing.
