You are told exactly where to stand and where to move. Every time you stop someone places a piece of tape on the floor. The camera follows you slowly. You rehearse the scene on the director's command. Once, twice. Then the director says, "Let's go for a take."
The assistant director yells, "Quiet on the set!" The actor who appears in this scene with me moves to his position. He stares into the fire as the cinematographer instructs the cameraman to take a medium shot.
"Roll it," says the assistant director. Someone says, "Rolling." "Speed," says someone else. "Thirty-five, take one."
An assistant holds a slate in front of my face and snaps it shut. This "clacker" will later aid the film editor in synchronizing the picture to the sound. "Action!" commands the director.
Seconds later, the director calls out, "Cut, do it again." The process is repeated until the director yells, "Cut. Print it." The makeup person moves into the scene and adjusts my makeup. The director now wants a close-up shot and the cameraman films several takes until the director is satisfied with each one.
Finally, it's my turn for a close-up. You know that the camera and microphone will be within a few feet of me, so I'll need to communicate ideas and emotions at a very close range.
"Action!" I enter the room clutching a tea mug, my hand trembling as I imagine Annie's might. You're careful to "hit your mark" and stop exactly where the tape was placed on the floor earlier in the day. "Cut," the director says, and tells you to do it again.
Finally, he calls out, "That's a wrap."
I take a deep breath of relief. The assistant director gives me my callsheet, or schedule, for the next day's shooting. The crew begins to pack away the equipment for the night.
Finally in my dressing room done for the day, I dialed Eliana's number.
"Hi, baby," Eliana lilted.
Her voice is a breath of fresh air. I breathe, "Hey, baby, I just finished I'm in my dressing room getting ready to head home."
"That's good, I miss you." She breathes into the phone. "The kids won't go to sleep until you get home and tuck them in." She sighs.
"How's our third bundle of joy doing?" I ask grinning.
"He is good, I haven't thrown up once today." Eliana giggles.
I laugh, "I'm glad baby, I won't take long, I missed you all." I murmur into the phone.
"We missed you too, I love you."
"I love you too baby, see you in a bit." I hang up.
I can't believe it's been ten years. After our son Ian we had Abby my princess. Now we are expecting our third child. Eliana is four months so we don't know the sex of the baby yet. But I think it's going to be another boy. My kids are my world, my life. It has been hectic lately since I've been filming a movie after another and another. But I'm lucky that Eliana is a wonderful caring wife and mother. She is my entire reason for existing.
Ian almost ten years old and Abby five years already, time does fly by. Abby looks just like her mom. She has hazel eyes and light brown hair. Ian looks like me, has my eyes and my hair. My mom pulls out baby pictures of me and Ian is my little mini me.
At home Eliana has dinner for me already set at the dining table. My kids run towards me all at once to hug me.
"Ian, Abby, let's go to your rooms so I can tuck you in. Son, go to your room I'll be there in a minute. I'm going to tuck your sister in first." I say smiling and kissing his head.
