Chapter 22: Reunited

Kenny and I hadn't made it to the school for more than 30 minutes, before Sarah, Brody, Marlon,Louis, and Mitch ran inside the gate out of breath.

" What's going on? Where's Clem?" I asked looking around, not seeing her or AJ.

" We got separated. There were just... Too many walkers. Her and AJ went off in a different direction. I... I couldn't get to them." Sarah explained through panicked breaths.

" Clem will be fine. She knows how to handle herself." Marlon said trying to calm everyone down. I shook my head whistling for Sam.

Sam stood from the ground next to the fire and ran over to me. " I'm not leaving my daughter out there alone! I'm gonna find her." I said bending down to rub Sam's head.

" Find, Clem and AJ. They need us." I said to him before following him out of the front gate.

" I'm going with you." Sarah demanded but I turned and shook my head.

" No, stay here. " I refused. Sam and I headed further into the woods untill Sam caught a scent and took off running.

I ran behind him untill we began to hear the sounds of walkers. Sam ran towards the sound barking and growling.

" Mom! " AJ called out as he tried to help Clem up the rock wall. But a walker had a hold on her leg.

I raised my gun and shot the walker in the head causing it to let Clem go. She climbed up the wall and the walkers started heading towards me.

" Meet me on the otherside. I'll be there! Go!" I yelled to her. She nodded and took AJ's hand running off.

Sam and I ran past the walkers and down the side of the rock wall untill we were on the other side leading back into the woods. I didn't see Clem or AJ as I stood looking back to make sure the walkers weren't coming.

Just when I was about to give up hope, Clem and AJ came running down the hill towards me. " Oh, Sweet Pea, you okay? AJ? Come here, let me look at you." I said trying to steady my breathing as I checked them.

" We're okay, we're fine, both of you, calm down." Clem chuckled as she looked down at Sam who was wagging his tail and whimpering as he danced circles around her.

" Let's get back to the school. Before the walkers show up again." I sighed with relief as we all ran back into the woods.

Unfortunately we didn't get far and walkers emerged from the woods. " Look, it's the barn, it's empty now." AJ called out as he held on tightly to Clems hand.

We quickly made our way towards the barn, locking ourselves inside. We closed up all the entrances and sat down catching our breaths.

" It's okay, we should be safe in here untill the walkers pass. We can cover ourselves once the sun goes down and make our way back home. For now let's rest." I explained. As we all sat close to each other with our backs against a bale of hay.

Clem took a deep breath and leaned against me while AJ leaned against her, wrapped in her arms.

I closed my eyes and we sat together listening to the walkers as they growled outside the barn. Soon the sun went down and we headed out.

Covered in walker guts, we made our way through the woods untill we finally arrived back at the school.

Sarah stood on the lookout looking around as Marlon stood next to her, seeming to try to cheer her up, but she wasn't paying any attention to him.
