Bucky x Platonic reader- Explosion

Y/n has to diffuse a bomb and Bucky helps

Y/n, Bucky and Sam were on a mission. Their job was to find hostages held by HYDRA and to bring them to safety. It was quite risky as the location traced was in the city. Civilians were at the risk of dying along with the hostages. HYDRA always made things worse.

"Bucky, you go right. Y/n you go left. Find out who you can and get them out safe", Sam spoke in the comms. "Good luck", Y/n told Bucky and he nodded. They both parted ways and went inside the building to look for hostages. The building was huge and was at the edge of the city.

But the city was still at risk, it was HYDRA anyway. Bucky made his way to the stairs and stopped midway as he heard voices. He knelt down and walked ahead slowly. There was a small window from which he peered through and spotted the hostages. They were surrounded by 3 armed men.

"Found the hostages, 9 of them, first floor", Bucky lowly spoke in the comm as he tried to make out a plan of attack. "Careful Barnes", Sam said in the comm. "Y/n, status", Sam asked as they were all connected together. "There are... 4 guards and...", Y/n spoke but her voice started breaking up.

"Y/n? You said 12?", Sam asked but got no reply. "Y/n, you there?", Bucky asked. There was silence. Then he heard a scream, he peeked through the window again and saw a guard threatening one of the hostages. He needed to get them out so he proceeded to go in. He camouflaged in the darkness and proceeded to take them out.

Just as he knocked out the last guy, Y/n's voice rang in his ear, "I'm locked in. It's an underground facility full of weapons. There are 14 hostages here and a bomb which is going to go off soon. Can anyone help me diffuse it?". Bucky noted everything as he gathered all the hostages and started leading them outside.

"What kind of explosive is it?", Bucky asked as he carefully walked through the place. "It's a timebomb set to 12 minutes. It can take out half the place. We need to get them out", Y/n reminded. She assessed the bomb trying to look for a way to stop the timer. It wasn't her area of expertise.

"I know how to diffuse it Y/n, do as I say", Bucky's voice rang in her ear. "Go on", she spoke as she braced herself. "Tell me the colours of the wire", Bucky asked. "There is red, green, white and black", Y/n stated in the calmest tone ever as if she wasn't just trying to get a bomb off.

"Ok, what does the bomb look like, where do the wires go?", as soon as he asked, shots were fired. He quickly ran back to where he was and told the hostages to go back. Luckily none of them were injured so they could walk. "Y/n? Wires. Where do they go?", he asked again through the shots.

"I told you they go at the bottom, red and black are coiled together and white and green are separate", Y/n explained. The firing stopped and Bucky then spoke, "Cut the black one and check if the time falters", Bucky said in one breath. Y/n cut the black wire and nothing happened.

"The time didn't falter, now?", Y/n asked as she held the small knife in her hand. Surprisingly she wasn't panicking at all. "Ok ok um, try the green one, if the time glitches, cut the one nearest to it. Got it?", Bucky spoke as he signalled the hostages to walk ahead with him.

He protectively stood in between as he took them to safety towards the vehicles Sam had already placed. Just as the last person made through, shots were fired again and this made Bucky go back to the building. 9 hostages were safe, now he had to go back for the rest of them and Y/n.

"Y/n? You there?", Bucky asked as he covered himself behind a wall. Only static was heard from her side. "Y/n? Tell me you heard that. Y/n?", Bucky asked again. "Sam can you make contact with Y/n?", he asked again. "No, she's out. Let's hope she got it right", Sam replied as he took out a bunch of troops from the other side of the street. HYDRA was everywhere.

Y/n got the message but in pieces. She only heard 'green' and 'cut the nearest' and didn't know what it meant. Cut green or nearest to green? There were 3 wires left and then an alarm went off. Turns out it happened because Sam hacked into the system and unlocked all doors but had no idea if Y/n would make it or not.

"Everyone get out as fast as you can! Go!", Y/n shouted and the hostages got into action. She turned to the wires. Y/n thought for a moment and decided to go for the green one because she heard it and because green meant good. It was her way of understanding because Loki was always nice to her and it didn't make any sense but she did it anyway.

Just as she was about to cut the green wire, she realised that if it went wrong, this won't just take this place but the whole building over as the facility was filled with other explosives too. She kept the negative thoughts aside and hoped that green works. She cut the wire with one eye open.

What happened wasn't expected. The timer changed from 3 minutes to 30 seconds. This made Y/n run at her full speed. This whole place was about to burn and she was the only one left. She ran for her life quickly closing the door behind to maybe slow it down.Just as she made it out of the building , it blew up and sent her flying towards the nearby trees.

Meanwhile, Bucky brought the remaining 12 hostages to safety and he was about to go back in the building but it exploded. He covered his face with his metal arm as some pieces of plaster landed nearby. "Y/n? You there Y/n? Tell me you made it out, please...", Bucky spoke in the comm and again, there was no reply.

His heart sank. He lost Y/n. His best friend after Steve, his little sidekick. She wasn't even 25 yet. Bucky's eyes filled with tears as he tried to keep his balance by holding a car. He never thought this would happen. Sam reached the scene and scanned the building for any life signs and he was glad that he did because he got one.

He flew towards the life sign and saw that it was Y/n barely moving in the grass. He landed near her and instantly checked her pulse, it was slow but steady. "Sam", she croaked and started coughing. "You're alive, don't worry", he joked and called for paramedics.

"I got her Buck. We did it", Sam's voice cut through Bucky's sadness. "You got Y/n? Is she ok?", he instantly asked back. "Yes, a bit smoky but fine", Sam joked again. A smile spread through his face as his happy tears replaced the sad ones.

After a while he saw the paramedics bring her back to where everyone were. Her hand was in a rough sling and she was ok. Bucky was more than happy to see her alive because a moment ago he really thought that she had died. He instantly hugged her.

"Ow Bucky!", she grunted back and he unwrapped his arms from her. "Oh I'm really sorry, I completely forgot", Bucky backed away but still held her shoulders. "I'm not going to die so soon Barnes, chill out", she joked and smiled. He smiled back.

"Kid, you better not. For a moment I thought you-", "Who are you calling kid?", she interrupted by raising her eyebrows. "Ok, my bad grown up", he teased and chuckled making her do the same. "No seriously, don't die", he tried to speak in a serious tone but she made it a joke again.

"Ok I'll try and be immortal like you sergeant", she taunted and saluted him making him laugh. Even with a broken hand and a near death experience, Y/n's humor didn't fade. Bucky and Sam were glad that she didn't die because they don't know what they would have done if she did.
