Evangeline

I had just got home from school when I seen my brother sitting on the couch while he was writing a new song, I tried to be as quiet as possible so I didn't disturb him but the keychain on my backpack made a loud sound which got his attention.

Dustin: hey kiddo, how was school?

Evangeline: it was okay but the same boy keeps bothering me, I think he has a crush on me...

Dustin: again? I thought he moved...

Evangeline: no, he got sick and stayed home for a week but he come back today and is more annoying than before...

Dustin: I will see if I can talk with his parents...

Evangeline: no please don't, I don't want everyone knowing I am related to a singer.

Dustin: I keep forgetting that you want a normal life. So how long do you think it's going to last?

Evangeline: I know that it's eventually going to be mentioned but can it wait until I finish high school?

Dustin: just until high school and we will tell others if you want...

I headed up to my room and placed my bag on my bed before I cooked dinner. I was thankful that the school year was finished and that I didn't have to deal with Miles every week, he was a pain in the ass who found every reason to be around me.

Dustin: so what do you have planned now that school is out for the winter?

Evangeline: I thought about visiting mom for a few days before finishing up with chores here...

Dustin: I think she would love that and don't worry about the few chores here, I'm sure Lacey will be able to handle it while you're visiting with mom. I also think dad would like to see you again while you're there...

I thought back to the night I last seen him, I had watched as he was taken into custody after a police officer arrested him for assaulting another guy who threatened to kill me and my mom, Dustin was in college at the time which was when mom decided that I should move here for my protection. I remembered being against it and begging her to let me stay but she was firm on the decision she made for me to come here and I've been living here ever since even though it was ten years ago. I was nine years old at the time and Dustin was twenty years old, I wasn't prepared to leave with him but my mother insisted that it was better for me and I knew it was hard for him at the time since he had to practically finish raising a child when he was just becoming an adult back then but he didn't give up on me when I knew that he wanted to some days.

I seen him waving his hand in my face and got my attention again...

Dustin: are you okay Eva...?

Evangeline: yeah sorry, I was thinking...

Dustin: so are you going to see dad while you're visiting mom?

Evangeline: I don't know yet, I will have to think about it...

Dustin: I know things got a little ugly last time you seen him but he did it to protect you and mom, I think he would love to see you again.

Evangeline: I don't know Dustin, I was still a child when he last seen me. What if he doesn't remember me?

Dustin: you're his only daughter Eva, he would never forget about you...

Evangeline: I will have to think about seeing him.

After we finished eating dinner, he cleaned the kitchen while I was in my room relaxing in my bed before I fell asleep. I had woken up in the middle of the night after I had a bad dream about that night and I headed downstairs while trying not to wake up Dustin but he was sitting outside with a few of his friends while they were playing with their guitars and singing a few songs.

I quickly grabbed a cup and filled it with water before turning around and seen him standing next to me which made me drop the cup on the floor.

Brantley: I'm sorry Evie, I didn't mean to scare ya...

Evangeline: it's okay...

I was about to pick up the broken glass when he stopped me as Dustin was walking inside.

Dustin: everything okay...?

Evangeline: yeah, just picking up glass...

Dustin: try to be careful next time Brantley...

Brantley: I will replace it...

I watched as my brother grabbed a different guitar and headed back outside while Brantley threw the glass in the garbage can. I noticed that he looked a little worried and I gently placed my hand on his forearm which made him look at me.

Evangeline: don't worry about the cup BG...

Brantley: it isn't the cup I'm worried about...

Evangeline: do you want to talk about it...?

I watched as he shook his head yes and we headed up to my room so we could talk about what was on his mind, I knew that he would be okay despite the nervous feeling he had...

Evangeline: this girl must mean alot to you...

Brantley: of course, we've known each other since we were kids and I want this to go like I'm hoping it will.

Evangeline: and it will, just have faith...

Brantley: thank you for listening Evie. I better head back downstairs before your brother assumes things...

Evangeline: right well, I am always here if you want to talk. Good night BG...

Brantley: good night Evie...

He quietly left my room and shut the door, I laid back on my bed while scrolling through Instagram and seeing the tour schedule that my brother had which I knew he would be leaving soon which also meant that I would have the place to myself.
