"Are you not going in?"
Irene exclaimed, catching Keith off guard.
He quickly turned around and saw Irene standing there, holding a few bags.
"Yes!"
he nodded as he entered the building. As Irene watched him rush inside, she couldn't help but chuckle to herself.
'He really did look like a startled cat' she thought.
Irene decided to run some errands for the café. When she returned, she spotted Keith standing in front of the café from a distance.
Curiosity piqued, she observed him closely. To her amusement, Keith seemed frozen in place, refusing to let go of the door handle. She couldn't resist and approached him.
"Looks like I really startled him," Irene thought mischievously, scratching her cheek.
As Keith settled into his seat, he couldn't help but observe the sparsely populated cafe.
It was late at night, a time when most people preferred the comfort of their homes. Nevertheless, Keith found solace in the familiarity of this place, as if he had always been drawn to it during the twilight hours. Lost in thought, a girl suddenly approached him to take his order.
As Keith glanced up, he noticed Irene making her way down from upstairs.
Their eyes met briefly, and she gives him a warm smile. This unexpected interaction sent a wave of nervousness coursing through Keith's veins.
He couldn't help but wonder why he had come over to cafe as earlier he made his mind to ignore this place.
With each step Irene took closer to Keith, his tension increased exponentially.
However, to Keith's surprise, she did not approach him. Instead, she casually bypassed his table and began chatting with a regular customer seated behind him.
Keith couldn't help but feel a subtle sense of disappointment.
Unbeknownst to Keith, Irene had actually intended to strike up a conversation with him.
However, when she noticed his tense expression, she hesitated. Not wanting to make him uncomfortable,
Irene redirected her attention to the neighboring table, engaging in lively conversation with a familiar face.
Amidst the chatter in the cafe, Keith heard laughter emanating from the table behind him.
He couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation. It was a man talking to Irene, and his words caught Keith's attention.
"So Irene, what are your thoughts on my proposal? I truly believe you
and my nephew would be a perfect match," the man playfully stated.
He was referring to a previous conversation they had all had, a suggestion for Irene to consider a relationship with his nephew.
Irene responded politely, expressing her lack of interest in relationships at the moment.
The disappointment in the man's voice was palpable as he lamented, "That's quite a loss. My nephew is
really fond of you. He will be
disappointed."
When Irene rejected the man's proposal, a sense of relief washed over Keith.
The weight of his own emotions momentarily lifted, leaving him slightly shocked at his unexpected response.
After the last customer had left, the only person remaining was Keith, diligently immersed in his work, he seemed unaware that it was time for the café to close.
