a ray of sunlight was streaming through the slits of the curtains into my eyes, and i squinted, disoriented.
i could hear the running of water from the bathroom, and struggled into a sitting position, kicking away the blankets and pillows.
dimly, i realized that the clock read 12:34. wow, i had slept in. the last time i had been able to get that good of a night's sleep was when i was younger, and my mom was at home instead of running late shifts at the hospital.
i crawled out of bed. even though the lights in my room were dim and the curtains were almost closed, the lights still made me blink and shade my eyes.
the water stopped running and my first coherent thought was: luke. he had slept over. again.
luke came out from the bathroom, the door opening, and i rubbed my eyes as he slowly twisted into focus.
"mornin', sunshine," he said, his hair was disheveled and his shirt crinkled from sleeping. he had a blue toothbrush in his hand and was grinning from ear to ear.
"how long have you been awake? and i hope you're not using my toothbrush," i pointed out tiredly, and flopped back onto my bed, shoving my face into my pillow.
he copied my action, and flopped down beside me. i inhaled a deep breath. he must have woken up earlier than i thought because he smelled shower-fresh clean.
"nope, i found it in your cabinet and it was unopened. and, i also took a shower. i woke up at ten and was positively bored out of my mind but i didn't want to wake you." he answered.
"oh, go right ahead and make yourself at home," i grumbled, but we both knew i was joking. "sorry, i'm not a morning person,"
"but it's not even morning anymore. it's practically the afternoon, so you can't use that as an excuse for being a bitch," luke pointed out.
i yanked the pillow i was leaning my head against and smacked him with it only to earn a yelp from him.
before i realized it, he had slid off of the bed and whacked me back with the pillow. "oh no, you didn't," i shouted, scrambling out of the bed to grab the pillow back but i missed. luke doubled over in laughter, and while he was distracted, i reclaimed the pillow to hit him full force.
he and i wrestled back and forth, until he finally let go and we both flew back onto my bed, choking on laughter. i was breathing heavily, my chest falling up and down, and my hair was all crazy and staticky.
"okay," he was panting. "so what's the plan for today?"
"i'm going to shower and get ready first," i answered after trying to catch my breath. brushing the now sweaty strands of hair that were falling into my face away, i stared up at the ceiling with my arms on my chest. "meet me in the front of my house in an hour?"
"alright, but ashton texted me earlier saying that our friends wanted to get together and hangout today." he said, tossing his phone into the air to catch it a second later.
a warm feeling enveloped me when he said our friends and i smiled contently. "yeah, they can come over if they'd like,"
luke grinned widely at my response but then pursed his lips when his eyes landed on my highlighted script. "i bet you were supposed to be memorizing your lines instead of hanging out with me all last night," he said, picking it up to scan over my lines. "do you know them?"
"more or less," i said, tugging on the sheets of my bed in attempts to make my room a little neater. i sat back down on my bed. "i've had other things on my mind, lately."
