the rest of the weekend after the party had flown by quickly, meaning that it was time to return back to my personal hell; school.
i let out an unnecessarily loud sigh as my hands rummaged through the small confined metal space of a locker that the school's provided us and searched for my needed textbooks for the next class period.
when i had all of my books balanced in my right arm, i got ready to slam the door closed before somebody startled me from behind, causing me to almost drop the heavy textbooks onto the floor.
luckily, my balance wasn't as terrible as i expected and i remained upright.
"oh my god! lydia, finally i get to see you in person! what's up with you ditching me at the party? and the vague texts that i've been getting in response whenever i try to contact you!" exclaimed molly, her vividly blue eyes squinted at me in an accusing manner.
she had her arm on the curve of her hip and didn't look as if she were planning to move anytime soon until i said something, so i sighed grudgingly.
"well, i've been..." i started to say slowly, debating whether or not to tell her about the incident with calum and luke at the party.
i readjusted my books in my arm and closed my locker, glancing at the clock hanging on the wall to check the time. the small second hand could not have been ticking any slower.
"well, the thing is...my mom took my phone and i haven't been able to reach anybody all weekend. god, it was horrible. anyways," i found myself saying very quickly in attempts to try to dash away before she got even more questioning, "i'm gonna be late to lunch! see you!"
"who the fuck cares if you're late to lunch?" molly asked incredulously, her voice raising as i casually tried to walk away from her.
the confined hallways were crowded with crowds people heading to their next class, so i shoved myself through with a couple apologizes. teenagers in high school were as hostile as ill tempered animals, not even bothering to mask their disgust towards each other.
finally getting away from molly, i arrived in the cafeteria. glancing amongst the groups of students sitting at tables, i strained my eyes to see my friends that i usually sat with everyday.
for the second time that day, somebody came up from behind me to me. it was as if the universe was determined to make sure i died from a heart attack.
somebody's arms wrapped around my waist. i yelped in surprise and swerved around to see calum. his grin was wide and his eyes were crinkled as he threw his head back in laughter.
"jesus, you would think that i was coming up to murder you with that reaction," he chuckled as he pulled his arms away from me, his voice had a tinge of amusement.
"i'll actually murder you if you ever think about coming up behind me like that again," i threatened him, straightening up.
"yes ma'am," he nodded. he jutted his thumb behind him, signaling towards a table full of loud boys scarfing down their food. "so, wanna come over and sit with me and my friends?" of course, his friends had to be the most obnoxious basketball players in the school.
he looked at me pleadingly, sticking his bottom lip out in a pout and his brown eyes wide open.
at this point, i felt obliged to say yes. "uh... yeah! i would love to watch you and your jock friends shove food into your mouths while talking about the last girl you hooked up with." i muttered the last part to myself, and based off of his huge smile he didn't hear me.
he led me over to his table and sat down in the nearest seat. i stood there, unsure of what to do. my eyes glanced around the table, taking in my surroundings.
