The next day he had to train so I was just left to go to work and be alone. I was folding some clothes that were messy from the group of girls that was just in the shop when my co-worker Sam said
" so do you have anyone "
I smiled and said
" All I will say is that it's extremely new like just last night it's official "
" Hence the new hair "
I laughed a little looking at a piece of it
" yeah and he dyed his a shade of magenta "
She didn't say anything for a few seconds then with a small laugh dancing in her words
" hey umm Kim I think your boyfriend is trying to get your attention "

I said as I got to the window and I could see Bax surfing because of course there's a good beach right by my job. One of the girls opened the window and started to cheer and soon we all were. I could see as he paddled back to shore then I lost track of him I went to start folding some more clothes when he walked in and gave me a quick kiss
" did you see me I was killing it out there "
" yeah and now you're tracking sand all over that I'll have to clean up "
" right sorry about that "
" it's fine "
" I hate to pash and dash but I have to meet the guys at the gym "
" It's ok go I'll see you tomorrow for the comp "

He kissed me quickly and then ran out of the shop and the girls were making sounds like school girls when they saw a girl and boy talking
" oh shut up "
I laughed them off and watched till his magenta hair was gone.
" so you and Baxter Redic "
Sam said as she set down a small pile of shirts
" Yeah "
She smiled and so did I know it's odd but it feels good to have people knowing that we're together.

I got to the comp and quickly found Manu
" hey did I miss anything "
" no girls are just about to start "
" ok good it was hard to get out of work today a constant flow of people "
" yeah LETS GO GIRLS "
I just watched and soon it looked like Poppy was going to catch a good wave when it ended up being a fake out and she fell

I said to myself and watched as she came back up and then got back to the line. By the end of the comp, Ari and a random girl won. We were all standing and cheering as they got their medals when I felt Bax behind me
" hey so I set up a party at mine help me let the others know "
Bax said and I helped. Where we were in the parking lot loading up Manu's van I heard a snap and when I looked back I saw one of the fins on Poppy's board was broken
" oh I'm so sorry pops "
Ari said I'm guessing he knocked it down
" it's fine I have more at home "
We left and as the sun was going down by the time we all got to his
" oh there you pops you did good today "
" thanks that first wave "

She smiled a little and I could tell she was starting to feel better about it
" it wasn't a big comp anyway "

She was pulled away by Marlon and Summer took her place

" we are it's just I'm sorry for what I did I mean Bax and I weren't together yet when you did that "

She smiled and so did I
" yeah we put a label on it two nights ago "
She hugged me and I couldn't help but laugh

" ok good I'm not the last to know if that was the case then I'd be worried "
" no no, it's just you all were so focused on the comp today and I didn't want to mess any of you up like distract you so you were off your game "
She just looked at me and smiled and then she faded into the buzz of the party I felt so alone in the crowd of people I didn't know and I couldn't find any of my friends. I got into the house and found my way to his bedroom. I sat on the bed and just closed my eyes listening to the muffled music and my internal thoughts came out
" I'm happy for once "
And in a hardly audible voice, I continued
" and on my birthday"
There was a knock on the door
" sorry room in use "
I put my head in my hand that was so stupid to say
" I thought I'd find you inside "
I looked up and there was Bax
" what's that supposed to mean "
" it means that I looked all over outside for you "
He had that goofy smile on his face as he sat down on the bed next to me
" hey you ok "
" yeah why "
" I don't know you just look tired is all "
" yeah crowds just drain me is all I'll be ok "
I lay back on the bed and he followed
" I'm just going to close my eyes ok I promise I'm listening "

He started to move strands of hair from my face and behind my ear and he softly said
" hey I'm happy that you came to the comp today even though I didn't win it was the most fun I've had surfing in a while "
I nodded too tired to talk and the last thing I remember hearing was the song that I was singing when we first hung out.
