Vegas pov
We got food and then went to the beach and it was nice to just be with him none of the others around. We were about back to my place when he said quietly
" hey so I have to practice hard for the next two days so I won't be able to hang out None of us will "
" oh it's ok I totally understand just let me know when you're all free "
I kissed him and then went inside.

I got a text a few nights later inviting me to hang at the beach to watch the sunset. When I got there Poppy and Marlon were setting up the fire and Summer and Bodhi were setting out some blankets Bax saw me and he rushed over picking me up and spinning me around
" B put me down "
I laughed and he did we went over to the rest. Everyone was talking about things creating a gentle hum as we watched the sun go down and the fire was lit. Ari and I were talking about his sister Honey and her obsession with birds when Poppy said
" how old are you again kimie "
" why "
She had a soft smile on her lips
" just wondering "
" oh 17 "
" what I thought you said 16 when I asked "
Bax said confused
" Yeah "
I said quietly
" We missed your birthday "
Summer said and I could feel all eyes on me as I looked into the fire and then I felt Bax's body move closer
" yeah sorry I didn't tell you guys "
" When was it "
Bax asked putting his chin on my shoulder
" it was umm the day of the comp when Poppy snapped the fin on her board in the parking lot "
" That was a month ago "
Poppy said and it seemed like she was mad
" I'm sorry "
I said shrinking back a little and I was turning my head to look at Bax when I fully turned to look at him he kissed me and everyone cheered like little kids but I didn't mind when we pulled away he said
" That settles it we will have a party tomorrow for your birthday we can have it at Poppy's "
" yes it will be so fun ok "
She turned to Bodhi and they started to make a plan I just looked at Bax and he had such affection in his eyes even with the slowly dying fire. Soon it was nothing but embers and we were using our phones for light not wanting the night to end. Someone's phone went off and that was our signal it was time for us all to go home.

As I started to get ready for the party at Poppy's I couldn't help but think about past birthdays and the pain that they brought. I was sitting on my bed putting on some shimmer eyeshadow when I got a text
' how's the birthday girl feeling '
It was from Summer
' good '
I responded putting my phone on the bed and I started to look at my options for outfits. After many variations, I landed on a pair of sage green cargo pants, a plain dark green v-neck T-shirt, and a red flannel over top. I put my hair up in a messy bun and looked at myself in the mirror I was so focused I didn't see Bax appear behind me
" hot "
He said and it made me smile
" Are you ready "
" umm yeah "
I grabbed my phone, kissed Surf on the head, got my bag and I was ready. When we made it to Poppy's I could hear the music already so we just slipped in. After an hour I was standing against the wall just watching people
" Here I got you something "
Bax handed me a small gift bag and when I opened it it was a floral print fin for a surfboard
" thank you but I don't have a board "
" yeah you do "
He went outside then came back in with an orange and yellow board
" what is this "
Summer was next to me then
" We all chipped in and got you a board "
" you guys "
I took it and was looking it over and noticed a little V on the nose of the board I looked up at Bax and he had a small smile on his face
" hey Bax can you come with me for a minute "
We went back outside and he showed me where the board was because I questioned how I walked past it as soon as he put it in the rack I said
" Bax why does it have a V on it "
" ummm because "
I looked at him for a second
" Bax did you did you make it "
He smiled a big smile
" maybe "
" Baxter Redic "
" yeah I did ok I started to make one for myself and then well it changed to be yours and- "
" thank you I ... I love it it's perfect ok now help me put the fin on "
" of course "
He did it and when he was explaining I was just watching him he seemed so at home.
" There now you're all set to wax it and take it for a spin "
I stepped closer to him grabbed his open black shirt and pulled him closer
" you know I would but you know these people kinda threw me a party "
" I guess it would be bad to leave it early right "

He kissed me softly then pulled away
" unless "
He arced an eyebrow and then went over to the door
" oi let's go for a surf Vegas said "
They all cheered and he came back over to me
" let's get going then "
We all got in Manus van and some of the others rode their bikes and we made our way to the beach Bax helped me wax my board as the others started to have fun. Soon I was up on my first wave of the day and it was perfect and I could tell he put so much care into the board that it was perfect. We all were just hanging out it was amazing just seeing them having fun and being so incredible. I was sitting watching the horizon when Bodhi appeared next to me
" what's the birthday girl doing alone "
" just watching "
" hey umm I'm happy for you and Bax "
" Sorry "
I turned to look at her and she looked around for a second then started
" well I don't know if you know this but I'm not trying to spread anything but there was a thing between Bax and Summer before Ari and this girl Wren broke up and so I'm just happy to see him happy for once ever since I meet him he's been so down and after he meet you I don't know you two are good together "
" thank you "
She laughed a little and so did I
" hey Bodhi thanks for telling me that I kinda forget that you all had lives before I got here "
" it's ok if you have any questions just ask me ok "
I looked at the horizon and then I looked back at her
" I have a question "
She smiled
" what was it like when Summer first came here I get the feeling that she was one to stir things up "
" umm yeah she did and it was in a good way and I don't know I just can't imagine living without her now ya know "
" yeah I get that "
I looked over at Summer and she was talking to Bax and Ari
" hey there's a good one you go "
She looked and then she started to paddle
" come on Kimie "
I followed her and we both caught the wave.

Bax pov
I just finished a wave and I looked around and I couldn't see Vegas in the water at all so I made my way in and I couldn't find her in the crowd. I started to get worried but then I looked up at the rocks and I saw her sitting there looking at something. I made my way up to her
" hey that's where my shirt went "
I joked and she just smiled
" Yeah "
I sat down next to her and tried to find what she was looking at but I couldn't find it
" ok so what should I be seeing "
" I'm just looking at the waves "
I put my hand on her leg and she leaned her head on my shoulder
" you know Bax this is the best birthday I've ever had "
" I'm sorry we missed the actual day "
I whispered
" it's ok you'll get it right next year "
She smiled looking up at me. I looked at the water and watched Ari eat it and I just smiled and we just sat there watching the sunset.
