Things Are Finally Looking Up

15. The Day That Followed

Niall's POV
I woke up around six in the morning and got a cup of tea. I just wanted to go see Lilly, I wanted to be the first thing she saw. I went on my phone and saw all the positive messages and prayers for Lilly, the two hashtags were still trending. I was so tired from last night, I think I only got two to three hours of sleep last night... I called the hospital and they said visiting hours start at eight. All I have to do is wait two hours... Shouldn't be hard, right? The minutes passed really slowly, probably because I kept checking the time every two minutes... I finally decided to work on a song I was writting for Lilly, it was supposed to be for our wedding, but I want to sing it to her soon. I did that in my room for a while and soon it was 7:30. I jumped up and changed quickly. I contemplated on waking everyone else up, so instead I left them a note saying I was headed to the hospital to visit Lilly.

I was there right when visitation was open and I stayed with Lilly. I held her hand and laid my head on a table, it was good to feel her touch. I fell asleep until my phone woke me up. Harry texted me at ten saying, "Morning, did u eat breakfast?" I replied, "Morning, no, not hungry." He said, "We'll be at the hospital in fifteen minutes, with food." I laid my head down once more staring at her. A nurse came in and gave her nutrients through her IV. I asked, "Did anything happen overnight?" She said, "Her heartbeat was all over the place, like she was having nightmares or something. She didn't move, but the readings did concern us..." I nodded and thanked her. Harry came in and said, "Morning, come to the waiting room and eat." I shook my head, he sighed and said, "You know Lilly would want you to eat. She wouldn't want you to starve yourself, Niall." I replied, "Don't guilt me..." He said, "Niall, mate, I know this is hard, but please at least eat, not for me, but for Lilly..." I sighed and said, "Fine..." He smiled and said, "Alright. I'm going to stay with her a bit." I nodded and they brought me pancakes, eggs, toast, hashbrowns, and some orange juice. I thanked them and ate all of my food.

Harry's POV
I took her hand and smiled sadly. I said, "I don't know if I you can hear me or not, Lilly, but I have news to tell you. We're brother and sister! I've always wanted a younger sister to protect. I knew I always felt a maternal connection with you and I understand it now... I want you to know, there is a room full of people who love you and are waiting for you. Please come back so we can actually hang out as brother and sister. Please..." Liam came in and said, "You might want to hear this..."

We walked back quickly and Paul was there, he said, "I contacted Lilly's family back home and they were on there way here. I got a call this morning and the plane crashed... Her aunts and uncles died in the crash..." Niall looked shocked and said, "What happens now?" Paul said, "After this, she has to go to America and clear up some legal rights and such. Two sets of her uncle's and aunts didn't have kids and her uncle left her everything. There are two houses to be dealt with, about eight vehicles to be dealt with, and a few funerals to arrange." Niall said, "So if she wakes up, she's waking up an orphan..." Paul said, "Strictly speaking, with her adopted family, yes, but she still has her biological mother, her twin brother, a step dad, and a biological dad." Niall said, "She's lost everyone she loves..." I said, "No, she hasn't. She has all of us and that's what matters." We saw Lilly being brought on the hospital bed past us. Niall and I went to the ICU desk and asked, "What happened to Lilly?" The nurse said, "Her heart beat dropped significantly. The doctors suggest something went wrong with her stomach. They have to take her into surgery because they think the stomach was ruptured and a possible organ was ruptured as well." Niall slammed his fists on the counter and stalked off. I said, "Thanks!" I caught up to Niall and he told everyone what was happening. We were all getting really worried... Paul said, "Look, the best thing to do now is to just distract yourself to make the time pass." Niall said, "Easier said than done..." Paul said, "Well do it, otherwise this will be a long day for you, Niall..." Niall sighed and went on his phone with his headphones in. We all sat down and waited.

Niall's POV
I just started to watch Lilly's Vlogs she made. I just wanted to see her face, hear her voice, hear her laugh...

Liam's POV
It was around 15:30 right now, so I said, "How about we all said go to the cafeteria and eat?" Everyone nodded, but Niall said, "I want to wait here." Everyone sighed and Louis said, "Mate, we've waited this long, so I suspect it's going to take longer, let's go eat!" Niall didn't budge. Sophia went up to Niall and said, "You know she would want you to eat..." He nodded and said, "I know, but it doesn't feel right. I have this feeling in my chest and it hurts..." Sophia said, "Niall, do it for Lilly, at the very least, eat a hamburger or something..." He said, "Fine..."

Sophia's POV
We went down to the cafe and ate lunch. Niall ate which was good, but he kept staring at his food pushing around his fries. His eyes were dark, he had bags under his eyes, and a frown. He was so depressed and I felt bad for him. I would feel the same thing if this happened to Liam...
We all finished eating and went back into the waiting room. Simon arrived an hour after we were waiting. We filled him in on what was going on and he said, "Well, I guess all we have to do is wait..." An hour later, the doctor came in, everyone jumped to their feet and he's said, "We did a MRI scan and found her apendix was ruptured, so we removed it and she should be fine. We gave her some morphine to ease the pain, but right now, all we do is wait for her wake up." Niall asked, "What is causing her not to wake up?" He said, "It's all in the brain. Something is holding her back from waking up. If you can find the source, then she may just wake up." We all said thank you and Liam asked, "Did Lilly mention to anyone something that might burden her a bit?" Niall said, "Well, she was sad she wasn't able to visit her parents' graves in a while." I asked, "When did her parents die?" Niall's eyes widened and he said, "Today, five years ago..." We all looked at each other. Simon said, "Her whole family is dead on the same day, just five years apart..." We all nodded and Louis said, "No wonder she's burdened..."

Everyone went to see her again and Niall went in there and stayed in there for a while...

Niall's POV
I brought my guitar with me to the room, I sang her one final song... Little Things...
I swt my guitar down, grasped her hand, and while crying I said, "Lilly, please come back. I know your family is gone, but you still have a home. You still have the lads, you have Uncle Simon, you have the girls, you have your loyal fans, and most importantly, you have me. Please, come back, I'm begging you..."
I felt a small squeeze on my hand. I hovered over her face and saw her beautiful emerald eyes look back at me and I breathed, "Lilly..."
