After the realization, another question formed in his head.

"But how did you know all of these, Ma? About how Ian went missing, the Amerryllis's involvement, about Dad's involvement?" Even if he uses the full capacity of his brain, he cannot think of one reason.

Genevieve smiled, pressing another hand to Michaelis's other cheek. The boy pouted.

"Call it a mother's instinct, darling. I'll always know where the both of you are," she says before stepping away from her son's warmth, "Now, go back, Michaelis Onyx. You are safe with them."

"The bunkers are safe, Ma, why don't you come with me? Let's run away from this hell together." He tried grabbing her arms but she moved it away.

"Onyx, listen to me." She started. "I will assure you that I will leave this hell, your father; but that doesn't mean I can stay with you.

My son, believe me when I say that I want to be with you every day, because I do. But in the situation we are in, that would be impossible."

"What are you trying to say?" His voice cracked. "Ma, what are you planning to do?" He took a step forwad, and her backwards.

"Onyx, this will be the last time we will each other." Her tears fall down like how waterfalls do.

The world was suddenly too loud. Michaelis can't hear anymore after that, his mind just blanked and everything was just too much.

"W-what do you..." he tried to ask but the words just won't come out. "Ma..." call him a crybaby, but just thought of losing his mom, his pillar, his number one support– Michaelis would rather die.

"I will hide. Like you, like Ian, like your friends. Genevieve will die. I will live like ghost and haunt them in the dark. Onyx, I will promise you, and I want you to promise me too," she said seriously.

Michaelis gulped, "yes, Mama." He replied.

"Good," she nods, "let's promise each other that they will never take us alive. Let's live longer than they do, because that would be the best revenge for those who are trying to take us down."

"Let's stay alive, Onyx. And when it's all over, let's meet again." She smiled at him one last time.

Michaelis retraced his steps back to the bunkers.

It wasn't even a full day yet since he left, now he's here, running back to them. That somehow made him feel pathetic.

He swat the tree branches away from his face, looking back once in awhile to make sure nobody followed him. He sighed when he reached the door he walked away from.

"Now, stupid, how are you going to go in?" He asked himself as he stares at the smooth surface of the door. No knob or handle in sight, that's great.

He was about to turn around and find another way in, when he heard the same turning of cogwheels. And seconds later, the door opened.

"Hi, Nyx," Jaxen waved at him. His eyes are bloodshot, seemingly from the lack of sleep.

"Jax, hi..." he breathed out.

"Come in, it's cold outside." The younger trembled as he ushered him inside.

"How di– Were you waiting for me to comeback?" He asked in disbelief. Was he anticipating his return? Was he expecting him to fail, and run back to them again?

"I just know that you'll comeback." Jaxen smiled at him as he offers a biscuit and a bottle of water. It was his first meal the entie day, and he was glad that Jaxen offered him some. "I also know that Auntie G would make you comeback."
