The sun was up and the fields and forests had risen up in all their glory. A low-hanging fog hung in the air. As the prey sprinted through, the earth under one of the huge trees started moving. As if the forest was trying to give birth, a hand suddenly emerged and a body struggled to free itself from the depths of hell.

Jessen's face was covered in dirt and mud, coughing up some soil from his mouth. He ran a hand across his face and gazed at the deep cuts in his skin. Damn, that mother and child! He groaned as he pulled the rest of his body from the ground.

He lay for a few moments, splayed out and staring at the small light slipping from the leaves of the trees. A honey badger rested on his chest and for a moment, he looked at it, contemplating for a drink. In the end, he felt bad for the little prey and let it go as he sat up to gaze at the surroundings.

Unfortunately for him, he was still in the same rainforest he got lost in. In the beginning, he thought he could take on both the mother and son and decided to face them, thinking an opportunity may not come again. But that kid...well, Cain was longer a child.

Not like Eve expected that they could take him on easily but they did bury him alive and so deep he thought it would take him months before he could dig his way through. The thing was, during the encounter, Eve didn't even make a move. It was all Cain.

Now it makes him wonder how strong Eve must've become.

He stood up, mud mixed with stale water. He smelled and tasted the stagnant air and his feline instinct was trying to tell him something. Slowly taking his time, his feet shuffled through the detritus as the leaves rustled and the squirrels chattered in the distance, he soon caught sight of a pathway as he dragged his exhausted body, deciding to stay in lane to find an exit.

Fuck.

Jessen growled once more. He was too thirsty to even turn himself into a cougar. Perhaps, he should take what was available in the forest and have a drink. Anything that could satiate the thirst and replenish his energy. It was then that he noticed, standing a few feet away from him, was a mountain lion, staring back at him. Snarling...

He smiled. Well, that was fast. Then, he attacked...

"Exhumed?!"

The expression on Delbert's face couldn't be discerned as a woman in a uniform who called herself Officer Trudy explained that someone from their department who went with the name 'Agent J' ordered a body to be exhumed on his behalf.

"I never ordered such a thing!"

The female office was suddenly alarmed, her gaze flickered from one person to another. She couldn't believe what she just heard. "But...he showed papers. Legit papers!"

"Show me."

Shaking, Officer Trudy rummaged through the filing cabinet and immediately showed him the papers, permission sealed and signed by the Elite Hunter Protection Unit. Even Judy was amazed at the authenticity of the papers. Everything was legit.

"Who the hell is this Agent J?" Delbert asked, but he sounded more like he was speaking to himself.

Judy turned to the other female officer. "What happened after the body was exhumed?"

"Nothing, he disappeared. But he left me a message and told me to keep the bones and wait for you Agent Delbert to return."

Delbert arched his brows. "You've kept the bones?"

"Yes."

"What other information did you provide?"

"I told him about the boy..."
