Saint Constantine.
A society of distinguished immortals that aimed to learn the ways of the human world. To an outsider, it was nothing but an academy filled with bloodsucking vampires. But to those who knew of its secrets, it was a Mephistopheles more evil than any conniving sovereign.
This academy stood for centuries and was the symbol of power for the House of Elders. Hiding behind its intellectual mind was a rotting will of dark souls that ruled without question over a darkness beholden to no one.
Deep within the dungeon, a trap door in the courtyard rose up and Gavril's head popped up, his expert eyes scanning the courtyard until they spotted the Elder Vanguards. They hurried past without even noticing him, taking their positions on the battlements. Gavril slipped back down into the sewer.
"Nemeses are probably close," he told his companions and to them, it only meant one thing.
Civet not only failed to retrieve Iris and Lux, but he also let Eve and her army of shtriga advance.
His companions, so to speak, were none other than Raviel, Dike, Stein, and Lixue. After he escaped from his cell, he was chased by the Vanguards relentlessly. He had a difficult time releasing Dike because he was chained in a post. They would've been caught and would've engaged in a violent bout if not for the noise that started outside at the sound of a warning signal.
Shtriga---as far as the eyes could see, was charging down the dunes at a speed only immortals could see. They were certain that it wouldn't be long before those beasts would come crashing to the front gate.
"We still have students inside!" Raviel said with gritted teeth which had come as a surprise for Lixue and Stein since he never regarded himself as someone who gives a damn about others' welfare.
"Well, the Queen doesn't care," Gavril shrugged and turned to Dike briefly. "No offense, your mother's a bitch."
Dike scowled. "None taken."
"Fifty vanguards and over a hundred soldiers. Archers on either side," Gavril continued.
Raviel raised a hand. "Give us a moment to think, will you?"
"We don't have a moment."
"Stop pressuring me!"
Dike rolled his eyes. "Guys, I think I know a way."
Both Gavril and Raviel stared at him. "Why didn't you say anything?!"
"Well, I'm sorry. I had to do some estimation since we are in a sewer! Anyway, I know a passageway that extends to Professor Varuca's office---" As he said this, everyone looked at him suspiciously. "Don't ask!"
Even underground, they moved stealthily, following what Dike could recall and fleeting to gain speed. Soon, they found another trap door and kicking it with force, Dike emerged, then Raviel, Gavriel, and Stein who offered his hand to Lixue, trying to be a gentleman but she slapped it and climbed on her own.
"She's not here," Stein commented.
"Duh! Of course, she wouldn't be here!" Lixue snapped. "She's probably with the rest of the professors and students."
Dike was quick to interrupt before their conversation turned into a full-blown argument. "I think it would be much faster if we separate."
"I agree," nodded Gavril.
