It had been 3 months now since they started on Paige's recovery, Paige had finally decided to make a move on the girl she had been crushing on. It was a late PT session and when it was over Paige asked the girl.
"Can I take you out?" To say Rory was surprised would be an understatement. She was gobsmacked, flabbergasted even. Rory didn't even realize she had been silent for so long until Paige spoke again.
"If you don't think of me that way it's fine, we can pretend this never even happened." Her little rant was cut off when Aurora said
"It's not that I don't like you. It's just that, I work here and you train here. Is that even allowed?"
"I don't know, but I don't think I see an issue?"
From then on Paige realized she didn't have to be shy, she did like her back. So she asked again, and again, and again. Every single session.
"Can I take you out, please?" She pleaded with the stubborn brunette for what felt like the 100th time.
"Paige, we've been through this."
"But I checked and it is allowed"
"But what if we don't end well? We can't stop coming here, you know?"
"But what if we don't end at all? We should at least try."
"Keep trying, I'm sorry"
And just like that, they continued in their routines. Aurora went to cheer practice and Paige got a ride from Nika to their dorms. At practice Rory was extremely distracted, she couldn't think about anything other than Paige. She knew she should give the girl a chance, but she couldn't. Something was stopping her. Maybe it was that her past relationships ended terribly.
Flashback:
Rory and her boyfriend of a year were about to go celebrate their anniversary. Rory was 16 and he was 17, he was her first partner ever. But as Rory knocked on the door she was not greeted by her boyfriend but instead by a strange woman. She'd never seen the girl before so she checked the door and yep, she was definitely at the right house. She'd met his family, and she wasn't family.
"Can I help you?" The girl asked. She was a tall, maybe 5'9, girl with brown hair and brown eyes and seemed nice. This is when Aurora realized she had been staring.
"Hi, yes. Is Jack home?"
"Yes? Who are you?"
"Oh, sorry, I'm his girlfriend. And you are?"
"Oh, don't worry about it,"
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"You'll see."
"Okay?"
The girl called Jack down and the look on his face is something Rory would never forget. He was in boxers and looked as flushed as can be. Aurora was too innocent or naive to know then what she realized a week later when she walked in on him and the mysterious brunette. She cried for weeks after that. How could she be so gullible?
The rest of her experiences with dating weren't any different or better at all. I'd tell you more if they didn't always end with either fighting or cheating and her crying because of it. She knew she needed to protect her heart now, so she built a wall.
The wall Paige was now struggling to break down. Or not, they're almost crumbling really.
