I. An Exquisitely Tragic Love Affair

(Part 1)

He bopped down the street with his big, clunky headphones on. His music was blasting and could easily be heard by a person standing next to him. He was heading towards his friend Drew's house. He had just discovered this new imported beer that was sitting in his dad's cooler. Adam couldn't wait to try it. His dad, of course, was being an idiot again. He said Adam couldn't use the car until he was more responsible and stopped fooling around. In Adam's opinion, his dad needed to shut up. He would do what he wanted, when he wanted, with whomever he wanted to do it with, and his idiot father couldn't stop him.

"I'M SEXY AND I KNOW IT! I'M SEXY AND I KNOW IT!" He jerked his body around, dancing to the music and basking in all his good luck. He was captain of the football team, which meant captain of every girl's heart, and he had fun all the time. But just because every girl wanted to get with him, didn't mean he wanted the same. It was different for him. He didn't want tons of girls; he wanted one girl, but he was convinced that the girl he was destined to be with would be an extremely attractive girl and he would know she was the one at first sight. A dumb song was next on shuffle and Adam wouldn't have that. He opened up his eyes to change it, and saw her. That girl Isabella Quartermaine. She wore her usual puke green sweater. She was in the middle of the street, curled up in a ball. She held her knees up against her chest and was sobbing heavily in her arms. Adam turned his music off completely and ran over to help her. He placed a hand on her shoulder, as to not frighten her. "Are you ok?" he asked softly. She looked up, panicked. "It's ok. I'm Adam," and he held out his hand. She quickly glanced at it, then looked down at the phone she held in her hand. "You're kinda in the middle of the road..." Adam continued. "Can I help you up?" He extended his hand once more, only this time it was to help her up. Isabella looked into the eyes of the most popular boy in school and imagined the stories he'd tell the moment he got the chance. She scrambled to her feet and without another glance, ran into the house directly in front of her. Adam watched as her skirt, so different than the skin tight ones all the other girls wore, bellowed behind her. She slammed the door shut and without judgement and without malice, Adam wondered how a person became like that... Distant from the world, a stranger to everyone but themselves, an outcast... But he pushed it from his mind and didn't give her another thought.
