I. An Exquisitely Tragic Love Affair
(Part 2)
Adam and Drew had a sick time that night. Drinking until they were drunk. Adam returned to his house at 2:30 in the morning, and his return aroused another argument with his father.
Isabella stared out the window as Adam walked away. Probably looking forward to getting drunk, which everyone knew he did. She looked down at her old phone once again and replayed the words which had been said to her. She walked blankly through the halls of the lonely house. Once in the kitchen, she made herself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and poured herself a glass of water. After she ate that, she quickly did her homework and went to bed. She wrapped the blanket tightly around her, soaking in its warmth. It was cold in the house, although outside there was just an autumn breeze. She felt a tear stream down her face and knew that it would happen again. She would cry herself to sleep, trapped in the memories the old house held. Memories that forever replayed the events that had gone on in this house. Events Isabella didn't wish upon anyone...
The next day in school, Isabella didn't even bother writing a letter. There was no point anymore. She walked through the halls as she always did, but today her mind was elsewhere. In a place that she could never reach.
Adam passed her while walking to his own class. He saw how her eyes were puffy and how they weren't masked with the makeup most girls wore. He realized, she didn't just look like that today, she looked like that everyday. She didn't seem to notice him, but he noticed her, although he thought he wouldn't give her another thought. His friends, including Drew, clustered next to him and followed his gaze. The group laughed at her, teasing her face and clothes, and her muted speech. Adam laughed along with them. There was no reason why he shouldn't. He had always thought she was strange, why should that change just because he saw her crying?
He and his friends stood there in the middle of the hallway, blocking the rest of the people from getting to their class. They cursed loudly to one another, hoping girls would find it attractive, and whistled if a hot girl glanced at them. They didn't care if they were late to class, it wasn't like they were going to college or anything. Adam's friends walked away a few seconds before the bell rung. Adam himself hung around a little bit longer. His class was right across the way and he wasn't anxious to step into that class anyway. Finally, he started to walk towards the door, when he felt a hand on his shoulder and he heard a gruff, "ehhhemmm...."
