I. An Exquisitely Tragic Love Affair

(Part 3)

Adam turned around and saw a stout man who stood 5'3''. It was the principle, Mr. Rosenband. Adam had to look down at him, since he himself easily stood a proud height of 5'11''. "Yea?" he asked with an attitude. The principle didn't say a word. "I have to get to class," Adam continued snootily.

Mr. Rosenband grunted, "please Mr. Green. Like you give a damn about that." Adam was taken aback and crossed his arms across his chest. "I found some beer bottles on the property. Any idea who left them there?" the principle asked.

Adam shook his head and said, "how should I know?"

"Oh, I was just wondering," Mr. Rosenband said knowingly. Adam shot him a look. "This isn't the first time this has happened..." the principle went on, "I could expel you."

Adam rolled his eyes, "go ahead. Like I care. "

The principle smiled wryly at Adam's sarcastic tone. "But the thing is, Mr. Green, I believe you do care. That is why, I am going to help you..."

Adam did care about school, although he tried not to show it. Guys like him didn't like school. They didn't know that the formula for Pythagorean Theorem was A^2 + B^2 = C^2. But he knew it and he liked school, as much as he tried to deny it. And yea, even sometimes he regretted getting drunk because then he wasn't able to get anything out of the lessons they taught. "How are YOU going to help me?"

Mr. Rosenband shrugged his shoulders. "Easy. I'm going to get you involved with new people."

Gross. He didn't want to hang out with losers, which was exactly where he was going to send him. "No!" Adam protested.

"Yes," the principle finalized, "or I will expel you. Your call..." Adam sighed obnoxiously and walked to his class quietly cursing his principle who was about to send him into a hellhole.

After school, Mr. Rosenband escorted Adam down a spiral of corridors he had never been in. "Where are we going?" he asked.

The principle laughed with a combination of bitterness, sadness, and a touch of humor. "We are going to your science classroom. Funny how you've never even stepped foot in this area of the school."

Adam hung his head. Science. 4th period. A class he always missed; but not because he wanted to, but because Drew wanted him to. "I want you to get to know these people. Make new friends, Adam. And while you are here, you will get tutored. You will do this everyday right after school until I say otherwise. Understand?" Adam nodded his head solemnly. As they walked into the room, Mr. Rosenband pointed to someone. "And this will be your tutor..." Adam looked up, and the only thoughts he could think to think were 'oh god...'
