II. A Test of True Love
(Part 35)
What the hell just happened?! She just walked away like Adam was nothing. He stalked away from that Godforsaken spot in the hallway. She had moved on, he assumed. She had forgotten all about him. He was no attraction whatsoever to her anymore.
He went home after that small encounter. He didn't care if he missed his classes; he wouldn't have been able to pay attention anyway. How could this happen?! She didn't even try to make conversation. She didn't even ask how he was doing. She just walked away! Adam took a deep breathe. He had promised himself he'd stay away from her if she'd found someone else, but right away he didn't like this guy. This new guy of hers had made her cut her hair and get a tattoo! This new guy forced her to wear clothes that Isabella felt uncomfortable in! Clothes that showed the scars on her arms from her aunt! Clothes that put her body on display! Isabella's new guy made her wear perfume that smelt so strongly it lingered for a good hour.
Adam hated this guy. He wanted to find him and beat him up and tell him that he should respect Isabella for the person she really was. He should never have made Isabella change.
Isabella didn't even go to any of her other classes. She went straight to the bar. The music blasted loudly, and usually that was enough to get rid of her thoughts of Adam, but not today. She ordered two shots and flipped them down her throat, enjoying the burning sensation.
Adam, she seethed. He decided he could just show up after four years of her thinking he was dead and just whisper in that voice of his 'Isabella'. It made her blood boil. After four years of her thinking he was dead!
She ordered another round of shots. They came almost instantly.
Well at least he wasn't dead, right.... No actually. He might as well be dead because he was dead to her!
Isabella started to feel dizzy, so she knew it was time to go, but thoughts of Adam still floated in her mind. She ordered a beer to go, and got in her car.
She passed out as soon as she walked into the dorm room. Her roommate was used to it by now, so she placed Isabella on the bed comfortably, and place a little garbage pale on the side of the bed. Just in case.
Adam filled her dreams too, but there, she didn't feel angry towards him. Adam... She sighed. The thought of him had always lifted her spirits. What had happened to all of her happy thoughts? They had gone with him. Perished with him. How had he expected her to go on without him? Didn't he know he was the only one who made her happy.... If he died, she died too...
She woke up for a minute or two to go to the bathroom and get some Advil for her headache. She stumbled around, her head still foggy from all the alcohol, but she was used to it. Before getting back into her bed, she looked at herself in the mirror, and she felt....gross. Like her old self had resurfaced for a quick second, but not wanting that feeling to last, Isabella stumbled to her bed. She wrapped the blankets around herself and closed her eyes, but sleep wouldn't come. She knew what she wanted subconsciously, but her conscious self hated the idea of what she wanted. Not being able to fight it off though, Isabella reached over to a dresser drawer and pulled out Adam's sweatshirt. She hugged it like a teddy bear to her chest, and when she closed her eyes again, sleep came immediately. She needed Adam, but she would never let her need take over. Ever again.
Its amazing how at one point of your life you can be extremely close to someone, you wonder how you ever lived without them, and then later they become a complete stranger. You will pass by them without a word. Without a single acknowledging look. That person, who once knew you so well, who once knew your fears, your desires, your dreams, your past, is now walking right passed you. Seeing right through you...
