I. An Exquisitely Tragic Love Affair

(Part 4)

Mr. Rosenband left the room quickly after that, but Adam stood where he was. Isabella smiled at him, and eventually she spoke. Her voice was not gentle, and soft, and it certainly wasn't childlike with a childish highness to it. It was different than Adam thought it would be. It was deep, but strong and guarded.

"Hi! I'm Isabella!" she introduced. Adam walked towards the stool that stood next to hers. "I know," he said, "we've met before." She blew off the comment, ignoring it completely. "So what do you want to go over first?" Adam huffed. "I don't even want to be here!" Isabella sat patiently. "What do you want to do first?" she repeated. Adam stayed quiet, determined to annoy her so much she'd just let him go. "Math it is!" she said cheerfully. Adam rolled his eyes and drew out his notebook.

Isabella worked him for every minute. In Adam's opinion, every minute of that "session" she spoke to him like a baby. Towards the end of the two hours, he couldn't take it anymore.

"Stop!!" he yelled. "Stop with what?" Isabella asked harshly. "I'm not stupid ok?! So stop talking like you think I am!" "You may not be stupid in math, or any other subjects for that matter," she said calmly, "but you're stupid in other ways. And in those other ways, you're the stupidest of the stupid." With that, Adam furiously picked up his books and hustled out of the door.

Hell. That was exactly what every day after school was going to be like from now on. Somehow, Adam would get out of it. He had to.

Isabella walked home after the imbecile she was forced to tutor, left early. When she finally reached her empty home, she set her books down and took her shoes off. She took a glass from the cabinet and headed towards the sink to fill it. The cup quickly filled with cold water, exactly what Isabella needed. She brought it to her lips and heard a noise. She froze in place, certain she had heard it. Again, the horn of a car blared. The cup slipped from Isabella's hand and shattered on the floor.

The crash set it off... The memories... The sound of the unbearably loud honking horns. The lights so bright, they were blinding. The screams. The bloodcurdling screams. The first of many times Isabella would experience excruciating pain. Pain that only brought confusion along with it.

Isabella sank to the floor, screaming through sobbing cries, and she once again wished that she wasn't alone.
