After Magnus had sent Iris through the Portal to the Clave, Serena, Jace, and Clary finally came clean about everything. Alec had some idea of what was going on but there were still certain elements that he didn't know about.
Magnus had no reaction to the discovery of what the Soul Sword could do, simply because Serena had already told him. After Luke's reaction, she'd made it a priority to get word out to Raphael and to Magnus. The Downworld had every right to know that they were fighting for their lives and they had no right to keep that information from them.
Clary then told them about the runes that the angel gave her, new runes that no one had ever seen before.
"Why did the angel choose you?" Izzy wondered.
"I have no idea, but he didn't just choose me," Clary answered before her eyes drifted to where the red Shadowhunter was held to her husband's side. "I think he chose Serena as well."
All eyes fell on her and Serena sighed. "I think you're right. I could hear Ithuriel's cries, but I don't think I have the ability to draw new runes, Clary."
"What makes you say that? You did it on the roof?" Jace queried.
"Yeah, but that was to save the angel. What I just did outside, I think that was my ability."
"What did you do outside?" Alec asked and Serena couldn't meet his eyes.
"Jace had just knocked out Mom and you had just jumped off the balcony and everyone was arguing and I...I couldn't take it anymore. I just wanted you all to stop, to calm down. I yelled 'Enough' and there was this flash of white light like waves in the air and you all calmed down."
Alec gripped onto her tighter as he kissed her forehead and Magnus spoke, "I think you might be right, Angel."
"What are you talking about?" Simon wondered.
"Years ago, a Silent Brother told me about a special connection the original Shadowhunters had with the Angel Raziel. That they could communicate from afar through...visions. Because they were created from his blood."
Alec's eyes widened. "Are you saying that..."
"Clary and Serena may have a blood connection to that angel. And that must mean she has pure angel blood."
"That's why Valentine wanted Clary and Serena unharmed," Jace spoke. "They can activate the Soul Sword."
The group scattered pretty quickly after that revelation, wanting time to process the information.
And the second they returned to their room in the Institute, Alec pleaded, "Serena, baby, please talk to me. I know what happened tonight was a lot but please, talk to me. Let it out. Whatever you're thinking."
Serena paced the floor before their bed, the gears in her brain turning. "This entire time, I never really thought much about the fact that Valentine is my biological father. He always seemed more interested in Jace or Clary and I thought I could get away with being the forgotten child. And now he's after me. He's after me because he experimented on me. I know I have pure Angel blood, but I heard Ithuriel's pain. He'd been chained for so many years. The agony he was in was indescribable. All of that just so he could have a tool to decimate the entire Downworld? I have the power to kill my friends. People I swore to protect. And Jace, Alec. What about Jace? If he has demon blood, how do I have Angel blood? How did I hear Ithuriel but Jace didn't? What if I kill my brother?"
"Shh. I'm here. I've got you," Alec promised as he enveloped her in his arms. Serena inhaled his sandalwood scent, the smell warm, woodsy, and completely calming to her racing heart and her panicked thoughts. "Look, I don't know what's happening. I don't know when we'll get answers or even if we'll get answers. But you are not alone in this, alright? I'm here for you. Always. It's like you and Izzy always tell me, you can't keep bottling things up or eventually you'll explode. And not the fun kind of explode."
