It was truly a sight to behold as Serena soared through the air. Her wings were undeniably strong as they pushed her through the skies; a real-life angel. It would be one for the history books as she tore through the hordes of demons. As her wings still shimmered despite the demon ichor that had been spilled on them, the very sight of her reignited the hope inside the Shadowhunters of Alicante that they could do this.

As they organised ranks and fought with renewed vigour, Serena massacred the demonic legions as her swords slashed and stabbed faster than the demons could process. Her feet were flung out to kick demons away before she became covered in demon ichor and her own blood. Her face was speckled with the stuff and her body was coated with it. But no matter how tired she was or how much her muscles ached, she fought, she fought with those wings as if she'd had them her entire life. And when her swords failed, which wasn't often, her voice saved her, the heavenly magic bursting from her mouth in white waves as it blanketed the demons, making them roar in pain before they turned into ash.

As she fought, the cannons eventually came online. The tops of the demon towers opened as the cannons fired bolts of energy at the demons that caused them to vaporise into dust. While that was a good thing because that meant there were fewer demons to fight, it also made Serena's job so much harder because now she had to worry about dodging the cannon fire.

Meanwhile, back on the ground, Clary and Jace had found Clary's brother who was simply standing there as he watched the destruction unfold.

"Jonathan! What happened to you?!" Clary called as her brother turned to face them.

"You wanted a monster. Here I am," he answered, the Morning Star sword still gripped in his hand.

"Please, stop this," Clary begged.

"There is no stopping this. Every demon you banish ends up on the other side of that rift, ready to come back again, and again, and again, until everybody in this city is dead!"

"That includes Clary!" Jace pointed out.

"I know that the love you felt for me, the love you still feel, is real," Clary said. "You told me you wanted to be better, to be good. Jonathan, please." She'd taken steps closer to him as she spoke, closer so that he could see the tears welled in her eyes. "Please."

"It doesn't matter what I do," he said before he lifted up the sword and it disintegrated into dust in his hand. "YOU'LL NEVER LOVE ME BACK!" he screamed before his jaw twitched with anger as it settled on a new target. One high above their heads. "So, how about I finally finish off someone you do love?"

"Jonathan -"

His ash-coloured wings broke free as he crouched down and launched himself into the sky.

"NO! SERENA!" Jace screamed so loudly that he scratched his vocal cords. And they could do nothing but watch as Jonathan shot straight for his twin sister, his angel who was fighting to save them, to save their home.

Serena's grip on her swords were slick as she plunged it into the heart of one of the demons. Her other arm lashed out as it sliced the head off another. Her wings then pushed her forward as her sword went through the roof of the mouth of a demon that roared at her.

She thought it was a demon that wrapped its arms around her back and knocked her swords out of her hands. She was wrong. She was wrong as she reached up to feel the arm that had wrapped itself around her neck.

"Nice to see you again, Sweet Little Serena," Jonathan cooed. "For the last time."

Her breath was shaky but she refused to let the hope inside her chest be snuffed out. She refused to be stopped from protecting her family and saving her homeland. She refused to be scared of him anymore.
