I chewed on my lip, bringing a knee up to my chest as I leaned over and typed something into my computer. I had spent nearly all night just trying to find this hideout's location on a simple map, plus trying to find any chatter or electrical current going there. As of currently, it seemed as if this place didn't exist, had I not seen it myself. I typed a code into the computer and banged the desk when a black screen appeared.
"What the heck!" I pushed my chair back, pushing my headset around my neck. My music blared in the headphones as I reset my head on my knees. Behind me, Emi clicked and typed away, trying to find online evidence of this unknown group. Something landed on my desk.
"Eat something, it's been forever since you ate," Emi ordered. I sighed and laid my head on my desk, tearing open the bread's plastic bag. "Found anything yet?" she asked.
"Nope. Nothing. It's almost like this group doesn't even exist." I took a bite of the bread.
Emi laughed, "To be honest, I haven't found anything either. I feel like I might be on the right track though. Try hacking into the underground internet and go from there. " I nodded and slipped my headset back over my ears. I typed in an access code and the underground internet searches, diversions, and users appeared. I typed in a command, asking for everything to be categorized and put in order.
"Coordinates... coordinates," I mumbled to myself, scrolling through the list of numbers. "Okay, we're doing this the easy way." I typed in the coordinates of the building and...
...a blank screen appeared. I screamed in anger, hitting my chair's armrest. Suddenly, my computer dinged and my screen blinked, a password tab appearing. "What the-? Emi, give me ideas for passwords." Emi sighed and rolled her chair backward to my desk, spinning around.
"Let's see... pull up the picture you got of the door." Emi opened a few tabs, pulling up pictures of each character used in Firebloods. I grabbed my keyboard from under her hand and pulled up the door on one of the top monitors. "Give that back." Emi slid the keyboard back over to herself. I watched as she zoomed in on the door photo and switched back to the character pictures.
"Twelve strokes." I pointed to the Hiragana characters. Emi nodded and wrote that down on a piece of paper. "Ten strokes for oni." Emi wrote that down, "Two characters for yokai, with 14 strokes. Three great yokai, four for the number of deaths, six for unluck." Emi scribbled all of that down.
"Great! Let's start with twelve, then go from there." I leaned forward in my chair and started entering numbers.
"12,10,3,6" I muttered to myself as I typed it in. I hit enter and...it worked! "That was easy." I grinned at Emi. "Now the real work begins." Emi rolled back to her own desk, leaving me to work on the new page I just opened. There was so much stuff.
I scrolled through the page, trying to find anything on the group, stopping at something mentioning the three great evil yokai. I frowned at the thought of why anyone would want to even search those accursed beings. I clicked on the draft and backed away from what I saw. It was a recording of... of my father.
I uttered a silent scream. But... wasn't my father killed on a mission out in China? I shook my head and began reading.
Year 15, Shogun Takahashi's
It's been a year since my wife and I have infiltrated this group. I have now found out that it's been a trap the whole time. The Hi no Chi's know who we are. We've been trying to get out, but it's nearly impossible. It may result in our death.
Asakumo, our beloved daughter, if you ever find this, the Government has been lying to us. Remember, neither trust nor distrust the Government, this is the time to distrust them.
If you ever learn of the Hi no Chis, this is very important, so don't forget it. The leaders of the Hi no Chis are the three evil yokai.
CRASH!
What was that? Honey? (silence) They're coming. We love you, Asakumo, and be careful. Remember...that......Government-
If this was a recording, it seemed that it cut out. I gasped and backed away, my seat crashing to the ground. "Emi, call Kage. Tell him to meet me at Master Akechi's. I need my father and mother's strike team on that day. I need our senseis and my father's brother." Emi looked confused, "You come along too." I downloaded the file and closed everything, running out of the room.
They never went on that strike mission. Has everyone been lying to me and wearing a mask of pretense?
