𝕴t was a waiting game.
Everyone was waiting in the Room of Requirement, knees jiggling anxiously, nails being picked at, lips chewed until blood cracked through the surface. More and more people came flooding through the portrait from Aberforth's pub, each one Oonagh scanned through the reflection of the tiny window. None of them she turned around for. Not until there was a flash of familiar hair. Sandy with streaks of silver.
"Remus!"
She dashed forwards, thrusting herself against the man so hard he staggered backwards a few steps. He managed to find his footing quickly, however, lanky arms enclosing Oonagh into his toasty-warm chest for one of those soothing, tender hugs that she craved right now. She hugged tighter, head only lifting when he mutters,
"Oonagh! Where's..."
He trailed off, eyes of sweet honeycomb doing a swift sweep on the room before landing back on that of Oonagh's glowing blue, feeling his heart sink at the sheer panic in them. Not for him, not for herself, for the fair haired, silver eyed boy who's not there. Because he's on the other side.
"He — he refused to let me come, but I came anyway" Oonagh confesses in barely a whisper. Remus eyed her for a moment, then replied softly, "Maybe he was right, darling"
Oonagh's head shakes in frantic little spurts, voice thick with emotion as she counters, "I couldn't just — he doesn't even have a wand, Remus"
Noticing the shine that can only mean tears growing bigger in her eyes, Remus tucks her back against him, cupping the back of her head and cradling in a way that he hopes is slightly reassuring. He doesn't know what to say, doesn't want to promise anything that he couldn't keep. Promises have been made to him before by the people he loved only to be broken and leave him to pick back up the pieces of a shattered heart.
He lowers the respectful hand against her back to slide into his pocket, patting her head when he finds what he was searching for,
"Here. Eat this"
She might not feel one hundred percent better, but it's bound to subside the worry eating her up inside. Whispering a wobbly thanks, Oonagh takes the chocolate bar, tearing off the wrapper and nibbles at the chocolate goodness only Remus Lupin can supply.
"Nymphadora with Teddy and Andy?" She wonders, shoulders relaxing a fraction when he nods.
The door of the room opened once more, and chaos erupted once more at who appeared. Keeping Oonagh close in his side, Remus questions urgently,
"Harry, what's happening?!"
"Voldemort's on his way, they're barricading the school — Snape's run for it — What are you doing here? How did you know?" Harry blurted out, startled at the sight of the gathering Order of the Phoenix.
