Before we start, I'd like to shout out

Oakley, Bella's Chihuahua. She was bright and bubbly, and such a wonderful, adorable creature. I've never met Oakley, unfortunately, but I bet she was the best friend to Bella.

It is such a tragedy to lose such an innocent creature and I am sending love and prayers to Bella's family. They had an angel, now, they have a guardian angel. Though it may hurt to hear, but Oakley is in a better place. She loved Bella and their family with all of her soul and she didn't deserve to go so early.

May Oakley find peace as she rests for all eternity, her soul being sent to heaven but her spirit to remain with the family to protect them like she would if she was still with us.

Oakley, we will miss you very much. You are extremely special to Bella and their family and you served them well. You were such a good girl and you will always be a good girl.

May you be spoiled with your favorite treats and toys as you mingle with lost family members and other beautiful hounds like you.

Oakley, age 1 - 3.5

My POV:

I walked down the street with a pep in my step, my service dog in training, Merlin, trotting excitedly, as he loved visiting Bella and Oakley, as did I. Bella is a good friend of mine, she's so sweet, and kind. I'd do anything for her.

I snapped out of my thoughts, knocking on the front door. Merlin tried to jump and open it, but I corrected him, pulling on his trainer collar, "Merlin, no," the fluffy dog looked at me as he panted, his tail wagging, "Merlin, sit." I commanded, using the hand signal. Merlin sat down while looking right at me, making me smile. "Good boy." I cooed, handing him a treat.

Suddenly, the door opened, making me look up. My heart shattered at the sight. My beautiful, beautiful best friend, Bella, looked like she had been crying for hours, if not a full day. "Bella! Are you okay?" I asked, instantly pulling her into a hug, the pieces of my heart vibrating, almost like if it were out back together, my heart would be pounding against my chest, so strong that it could've ripped through my torso, out of the delicate ribcage that protected it.

Merlin was sniffing her legs and nuzzling his nose all around her, trying to see what was the matter with his human's best friend. "Oakley's gone." Bella sobbed, her breathing was heavy and her whole body trembled. Tears filled my eyes and my lip quivered. "How?" I whimpered, earning a soft "no" in response as the girl didn't want to reply. "Okay, let's get you inside, okay?" I say, earning a nod, guiding her into her own house, Merlin following close behind.

I closed the door behind us and sat in the couch with her in my arms, Merlin jumping onto her multiple times, refusing to give up no matter how many times I shoved him off, bopped him on the nose, and told him, "no". He eventually laid on both of our laps, his whole body on hers while his head laid on my thigh. The poor girl held onto Merlin, balling her eyes out.

Just the sight of Bella in such a devastated state made me break down, too. I started to cry, holding onto her tighter.

God knows how long we were like that, but soon, we were calm enough to speak. "Everything's gonna be okay, Bells," My voice shook as I spoke, but I noticed the small smile that flashed on Bella's face when I called her, her nickname, "Oakley is in a better place and she'll always be here in our hearts to protect us." I soothed, earning a nod from the girl. "And I know it'll hurt for a long time but I'll be with you every step of the way, you hear me?" I promised, letting out a soft sob, earning a other nod.

Merlin let out a nervous yawn, a high pitched whimper coating it. "It's okay, buddy. It's okay." Bella cooed while sniffling. "Let's watch a movie, okay? You Wanna do that?" I suggested, "Yeah... Yes please." "Okay."
