I sat behind the camera beside Kevin, watching with a grin as my boyfriend and his friends messed around in the kitchen. They were doing another drunk cooking video and they were losing soberness -- fast.
They were all trying to cook some sort of Mexican dish that I could not pronounce to save my life and were doing stupid shit like dares and challenges between each step, as well as shots. And there were many, many steps, meaning they had to take a lot of shots.
"Oh! Boys, be careful! The bottle is a bit too close to the stove!" I warned, laughing as Josh pretended to have a seizure on the kitchen island. I was serious because the stove they were using was a gas stove, meaning you could see the flames, hell if you were dumb enough, you'd be able to touch the flames.
Just as I said it, Mully turned far too fast to face the burning oven that he knocked the alcoholic beverage over, sending the open bottle into the fire, causing the whole stove to burst to flames. "Holy shit!" Kevin shouted as Eddie screamed. Narrator quickly grabbed Mully and pulled him away from the fire. There wasn't a hood for the stove, so the flames instantly kissed the ceiling, making the fire spread even more.
Only a few minutes earlier, the boys had spilled some of the alcohol on the floor, making it easier and faster for the fire to spread. In no time, the smoke alarms went off and all of us were screaming for everyone to get out of the house.
We all had booked it for the front door, seeing as the flames had spread so far that using the fire extinguisher would be pointless. We were all on the lawn, some of us hitting the ground from tripping over each other or because the fear made us lose balance. The boys were scared to soberness, so it wasn't the alcohol.
My eyes looked around frantically, searching the group for my boyfriend, but he was no where to be seen. "Gaege!" I shrieked before bolting towards the house, ignoring everyone who tried protesting and calling my name, hell, I felt Narrator grip onto my zip-up hoodie and tug me backwards, "Y/n, no!" He yelled, thinking he got me in a strong enough grasp, but before he knew it, I unzipped the hoodie and slipped out, sprinting full speed forward and up the stairs of the porch.
Smoke had already spread everywhere and I covered my nose and mouth with my arm that curled over my face, the long sleeve shirt doing little to none help to cover my breathing holes, already feeling my lungs scream for me to get the fuck out. "Ga--" I let out a cough, "Gaege!" I called, my vision blurring with tears from the smoke causing my eyes to sting.
Glass shattered from upstairs from the fire making my heart pound harder against my chest in fear. Navigating my way through the house blindly by memory, I made it towards the kitchen, where I heard coughing and wheezing. "Gaege!" I screamed, seeing him propped up on his hands and knees on the floor, wheezing. He looked up at me, standing up with a stumble and handing me two familiar orange cats, making my eyes widen.
Visko and Chuppo.
Gaege shoved them into my arms before turning me around and shoving me forward, wrapping his arm around my waist while he hid his face in my shoulder, pushing me forward. We reached the front door and stumbled out, falling down the concrete steps and rolling into the grass lawn with everyone else. I held the two cats in my arms tightly to my chest as if my life depended on it.
"Oh, my God!" Dose shouted as he ran towards us, the boys following. "Visko! Chuppo! My babies!" Gabby sobbed, running over to me and taking the ash covered cats in her arms, passing one to Eddie, who was also in tears.
I was coughing up a storm, my chest feeling hella tight, but that wasn't my main concern. My eyes landed on my boyfriend who was coughing and wheezing next to me, sitting on his knees, his hand curled in a fist and pressed to his lips. "Gaege..." I rasped, moving from my laying position and over to him, wrapping my arms around his torso as his muscles flexed and his body jerked with each cough that left his burning lungs. "The ambulance and the fire department are less than a mile away!" Josh called from the sidewalk as he and Narrator were calming down Mully who was in a full fledged panic attack, the girls trying to calm each other down a few feet to the left of them, near the street.
