( Sage's Pov )
I returned home after jogging to get here. This was the ideal time to accomplish this because I knew my father wouldn't return until later.
My heart was racing and my worries weren't helping in this circumstance. If I'm caught, it's game over. It also made me wonder if Cane would notice the moment I enter the forest.
I controlled my breathing and moved carefully in the direction of the entrance. My constant need to see who is observing and, moreover, following me has also not gone away, so I find myself looking around every minute.
As I ventured into the forest and began to follow a route that I couldn't see the previous time I was out here at night, goosebumps ran down my arms.
Atmosphere changed during the day, the dead branches crept down from above, creating shadows where the sun barely made a glimpse.
The shivers on my body rose, as did my respiration. I heard a snap of dead branches as a result of being stepped on, as something rapid went past me. With haste, I looked in the direction of the noises and motions that escaped my notice. The more further I went, the more the activity began to increase.
Even though I wanted to find out more, I turned around and fled because I could tell that someone or something here was trying to frighten me, and it was successful. Nothing felt natural, and every inch of my body screamed danger.
All I wanted was to get out of there; a few of the branches scraped up my arms and face, and out of tiredness, my foot twisted around a broken tree branch, causing my fall.
I cried out in helplessness as I slowly tried to stand up and felt pain shoot up my leg. I closed my eyes and prayed for this to end when I heard a unwelcomed growl in return. I wasn't sure what kind of large dog this snarl belonged to-a coyote or a wild dog, possibly.
I remained there waiting and waiting, but nothing occurred. Eventually, I heard two footsteps coming my way.
"Looks like you stumbled about the wrong path, you know you shouldn't really be here." I moved my head up seeing it was the same guy as before, those dark abyss eyes staring right into mine. He crouched down and offered me his hand. I was hesitant to even take his hand.
" Come on now, I won't bite," He flashed a half-smile in response, and I grasped his very cold hand, causing my breath to hitch.
" What's wrong, you seem so frightened of me, do I have that effect on you, fear? " he smirked and helped pull me up, wrapping his arm around my waist, I hissed in pain from my leg striking with pain.
His hold on me tightened, forcing me to be more flushed against his body the more I tried to struggle away from him. He leaned near my ear, his lips barely brushing up against mine. I couldn't stop the excruciatingly chills.
" You hadn't said a word even, I can assume I am right..."
He held onto my waist even more tightly than before, causing me to flinch and shove him away while glaring at him. A loud growl erupted from my side, causing both our heads to snap in its direction, everything occurred so quickly. A black blur of what seemed to be massive dog lunged at me and threw me to the ground before everything went dark.
----
" Sage! Sage wake up! Wake up please!..."Pain pierced my body, jolting me away from whomever was shaking me. I opened my eyes slowly and let out a groan as a bright light blinded me.
My vision began to return, with me back in my room and on my bed, with both Cane and my father standing by my bed, concerned expressions on their faces.
"What's going on...how did I get here-"
" I brought you here after I found you lying unconscious on the ground near your house, I think you fainted"
Cane stepped back, allowing my father to sit on the edge of the bed, holding my hands in his with tremendous worry in his expression, but his eyes were serious.
" Sage, you need to be more careful! I can't leave my eyes off you for a minute! For couple of days, I would like you to recuperate at home. I am not sure what you were doing or what transpired. We'll be leaving town shortly for a trip I need to take, and I'll be bringing you with me."
" I don't remember either...why can't I remember what happened ? " Something felt off and looking at them I could sense they were hiding something from me. " No, I don't want to leave"
