(Cane's pov)

That morning going on another lap run, mostly to find clues on where that bastard had been. Burnt smoke traveled over to the forest, making it unbearable to breathe. At the time of the gathering, the one behind the fire had been there, lurking about and watching Sage's reaction.

He went by the name Pierce, walking among other students, playing his part to blend in. I knew the second I saw him, his burnt scent and dark pitch eyes sold him out. Creeping closer to get to Sage, toying with my emotions in getting a reaction out of me.

The blazing flames of hell almost destroyed the whole house down if it wasn't the fireman who came in to put it out, including the help of Amelia, my father's old witch friend. Nasty crisp burns were left on the structures of the house, leaving their usual mark that hellhounds left behind.

I wanted to protect Sage, keep her away from all danger while new threats began to come up from the earth. A call upon help to increase their chances in this very war we are struggling to live through.

Sage struggled to keep up with everything that happened so far, yet she kept pushing on, seeking for answers. I wanted to tell her however Samuel placed his foot down for me to keep my mouth shut. It was her birthright to know, She would have to find out the truth the harsh way.

Rage rolled through my body like a wildfire that needed to be released, grinding my teeth together and my body tensed. My inner beast craved to come out, clawing at my mind to be released, to tear any threat insight and claim our land at once.

I wanted nothing more than to tear the bastard apart. A rare sight to see a hellhound take the form of a human, they rarely ever revealed their human forms to us. What made it more strange was the fact, Pierce took interest in Sage specifically.

" Cane!" My head snapped in the direction of Luan, who's always needing to shout my name whenever my head's in the clouds. I turned to face him, calming my anger before it got to the best of me. " Luan, What are you doing here?"

" Came to find you. You're spaced out again, marching on like an angry bear. Mind telling me what's on your mind, brother? We got bigger issues at the moment. " he sighed out in distress.

" What is it?" My eyes narrowed at him, stepping closer. He frowns seeing me tense up again, I was running out patience, everything seemed to go wrong.

" The Bezekiras, hellhounds, corpse demons, you name them, are moving towards the town, the barrier is keeping them out, but they are cunning to find ways in getting in. Amelia fears she won't be able to keep up the barrier she placed. "

" Fuck!"I ran my hand over my hair, pacing in dread" They're calling upon the other spawn beasts of hell now?! Perhaps the house fire was used as a distraction when summoning these things. " I cursed under my breath again, chills ran down my body knowing we'd have more killing to do.

These creatures of hell were more formidable than hellhounds, often harder to kill because the energy they sucked out of the living gave them raw power and it took longer to kill them off.

" We called Samuel to help us for a reason. He can help us out there, his knowledge and planning would benefit us ahead of knowing what to do next. I noticed he's been avoiding us, has he said anything to you?" I can sense Luan's concerns, Samual was more focused on protecting his daughter than anything else at the moment.

Last time we spoke, he spoke on his concerns. His lack of belief in us annoyed me, I could see where he was coming from, it's been a long time since he's been in the pack. It's been a long time since he fought alongside us but we needed all the help we could get.

" I plan on speaking with him today. He's just concerned for his daughter but your right, he could help us out." I tried to assure my brother to die out the doubts the pack was stirring about, including his own.

" Cane!!" My name was shouted out again, both our ears perked up before looking at each other, Luan nodded his head in assurance.

I ran down the hill towards the running footsteps through the bushline. Luan followed behind me in a hurry to catch up with my speed. My eyes zeroed in on Samual who looked exhausted, panting out of breath and gasping for air. We ran up to him immediately" Samual what's going on??"

His pale eyes looked up at me after catching his breath, his palms against his knees, crouched down" Sage, she's missing. Can't call her...have no phone, we both left ours back at the house and that's gone. I suspect she might've gone to school...but I had to come to you in case you saw her." He panted out, walking over to a tall pine tree to lean by it.

" No, I haven't seen her, I assumed she was back at the cabin, resting up." The palms of my hands grew more sweaty by the minute. Sage, why can't you stay out of trouble? You're asking me to drag you by force while seeing those doe eyes of yours look at me in utter curiosity, yet your body always betrays what you actually feel.

(Sage's pov)

Walking into class with Emily, my eyes scanned the room of all the students who were already seated. Next to the two seats where Emily and I sat together, there at one of them sat Pierce instead. His eyes shifted from whatever he was reading in the textbook onto me. All the unpleasant chills returned, holding my breath in that moment, questioning myself once again. Why was I here? I should've stayed back at the cabin but instead I ignored the obvious.

Mr. Murk walked over to his desk, placing down the extra stack of textbooks he was holding onto. " Sage, Emily please take your seats, class will begin shortly."

Emily noticed my discomfort and leaned towards me, " I can sit with him, if you're uncomfortable, It's okay-" I shaked my head no, making my way to sit next to Pierce. My body tensed up more, it was like sitting next to winter itself, his presence cold, chilling to the bone. Goosebumps raised up on my arms, traveling up to my shoulders and to the back of my neck, causing a shiver within me to react.

Emily shrugged, frowning at my choice, taking her seat in the far second row of seats ahead. I refused to dare turn my head to look at him, however I could already sense his eyes on me. Nervously bouncing my leg, clutching my freezing hands together. Although there was a heater in the room, it didn't stop me from freezing in his presence.

During class, no matter how hard I tried to focus and take notes on the new material we were learning, the discomfort grew. In the corner of my eyes I'd catch him watching me in which I pretended to be clueless to his stares. Doubtless he'll fall for it.

In the corner of my eye I'd notice him ripping a piece of paper from his notebook and writing down something on it. Shifting my eyes back on the board until there was a tap on my shoulder that jolted me in my seat, causing my seat to screech. Others turned their heads to see what had made the sound, my cheeks burned in embarrassment. I looked over at Pierce, seeing him move the piece of paper he ripped over to me.

It read ' Meet me after school'
