( Sage’s Pov )

The entire car ride back turned into complete and utter silence. Cane’s eyes softly glimpsed a soft hue of green, swirling into a dark shade of orchid yellow. As if sensing my stare, his eyes traveled to meet my own, narrowing into slits. I turned to look out the window to break eye contact, the unwavering chills he gave me made my stomach turn.

We came to a stop at the arrival of my home. Cane turned to me this time, his hand grabbing a hold of my chin with a firm hold, forcing me to look at him.

" Let’s make this clear, Sage, If I ever find you sneaking out again, mark my words, your father isn’t the only one who will personally come to punish you for your reckless actions. " spoken in a hoarse whisper, his hand jerks back leaving me with my lips parted open from shock.

" Get out and head inside the house, I will catch up in a minute." He turned his head away, taking out his phone from his jean’s pocket, contacting someone. Feeling annoyed at the situation, I left a slam at my leave from the car, Swinging my bag over onto my shoulder with clenched fists.

‘ Who was he to tell me that? What did he mean by it? He acted like he was my father. ‘

Opening the door, I walked inside feeling myself suddenly overcome a feeling of exhaustion. I needed to take a cold shower, my feet ached with every step. I rushed upstairs and straight into the bathroom, turning on tap water to splash cold water onto my face.

I paused looking at my reflection through the mirror, letting the cold water drip down from my hands and face. Time seemed to freeze, hearing only a distant sound of the water running, my breathing clear to my hearing. Hoping all of it was just a nightmare to wake up from, all of it felt too real to be a nightmare.

Through the reflection of the mirror, my eyes seemed to have a soft glow of yellow catching my off guard more by the knock on the door.

" Sage you in there? Your father is here, get packing as soon as you're done. Your father told me to let you know that you're leaving earlier than planned. I will wait for you downstairs. "Cane’s voice spoke out from the otherside.

Grabbing a towel to dry off my hands and face, I immediately flung the door open to see Cane back up from the sudden movement” What? Like right now? I’m not going. Listen, something weird is going on here and you know about it, whatever it is, I am gonna find out and you cannot send me away now! "

Cane’s eyes darken at my words, stepping forward, reaching out to grab the frame of the door, causing my breath to hitch. " Sage, this isn’t some game. You’re leaving because it’s necessary, don’t argue with me on this. "

"I don’t care what you think is necessary! you’re hiding something Cane. You don’t think I've noticed the private meetings between the two of you? I am not leaving until I get my answers." I grabbed onto the handle of the door to force it to close, his grip on the door stood stronger than my own force.

" You’re being paranoid, Sage. Your father wants you safe, and that’s what matters. " He pushed on, his eyes glued onto mine as if challenging my actions. Anger bubbled over me, draining me even more than before.

" Safe from what? You still haven’t told me what’s going on. If there's danger, I deserve to know. " I grit my teeth, pushing the door back with more force, his foot comes in front to stop it from moving anymore.

" Your father made a decision, and you will respect that. Stop being so stubborn and pack up your things now. We don’t have time for this." His tone annoyed at this point, completely forcing the door to open and slam against the wall. Jumping back at the sudden impact, he steps forward to tower over me.

" I won’t go until you tell me the truth, Cane. I deserve that much, at least from you. I am getting sick of you controlling the situation! " I spat, backing up until my back hit against the door from his approach towards me.

He leaned in, trapping me in with both hands on the sides of my head. My cheeks began to burn, feeling my heart beginning to race from how close we were now.

His features were more clear to me close up, his breathtaking golden eyes staring into my own. Dark midnight locks of hair fell down his face, shadowing his face. My eyes trailing down to his soft full pink lips, seeing a light scar across the corner of his lip. His words spoken next broke me out of my trance.

" You don't need to know the truth. You have no idea what’s at stake here, just trust your father and leave it at that. We care about your well being, Sage, right now your father needs you to listen to him. "He tilted his head slightly to the side in hopes of having an understanding. Cane seemed to suck in a breath looking distracted by something.

" Trust? What would you know about trust? Trust is earned, Cane. Right now, you’re not giving me any reason to trust you or my father. I’ve moved too much, I am sick of it and frankly right now, Your only pushing me me away further by doing this-"

" Enough! You’re not a child anymore, Sage, act like an adult and do as you're told."My father’s voice boomed, hearing his footsteps come up and his figure coming into view, Cane moved away from me, wishing he hadn’t.

"I’ll act like an adult when I am treated like one. Until then, I'll make my own decisions, starting with staying here and finding out what’s going on here." With built up anger, I managed to push Cane out, slamming the door closed and locking it. "I am not going anywhere! I’m old enough to do whatever I want!" Instantly turning on the shower and sliding down against the door with a frustrated sigh leaving my lips.
