(Sage’s Pov )

I have been on house lockdown for the past two days. I was under strict orders from my father not to leave the house until I recovered completely.

I was left wondering what had happened to me that day as the silence gnawed away at me. After that, Cane would frequently come see me; despite appearing preoccupied with his own issues, he was resolute in his efforts to support me.

All that was not fine had been my missing memories; otherwise, I felt better than fine. I got out of bed and made the decision to attend school today. Since Cane hadn't arrived yet, I was able to slip away and make my way to the school.

——

Smiling softly to myself for making it out of there, I made my way to the front of the school. As soon as the school bell rang, I quickened my speed and headed inside.

My thoughts began to buzz uncomfortably as I made my way to the locker, urging me to grunt as I placed my backpack inside.

“ Hey, you new girl!” The voice suddenly appeared from behind my locker, caught me off guard, impacting in slamming  my locker shut. The girl drew me in with her beautiful green eyes and her fluffy, soft hair, which was done in ponytails and had a passionate, flaming orange color. She had a huge smile on her face. She wore little makeup on her face that was not overpowering.

“ Umm, hey…can I help you with something? By the way I’d prefer if you called me by my name, Sage. “ I breathed out, feeling the sudden waves of exhaustion come over me.

“ Oh sorry, I never actually got your name, our teacher never did introduce you when you first arrived. It was a shame cause I wanted to be your friend, you were all on your own. I noticed you also haven’t been in school for a few days and I thought something must have happened or you moved? A lot of new students that come, end up leaving right after. “She gave me a simple shrug before saying, "It's nice to finally meet you, Sage. My name is Emily."

I returned with a soft smile, feeling somewhat relieved that I had someone interested in being my friend. “ Right, My father and I tend to move a lot, I lost hope in trying to make any friends. “Taking her hand to shake”You too…”

her eyes lowered softy” I’m sorry to hear that, must be hard. So is that a no then? You look a bit spaced out” she pulled her hand back awkwardly.

My head was still buzzing making it hard to focus on the conversation. “ I accept…sorry I’m still recovering from being sick” I lied in order not to concern her with the truth. “ We should go…the bell already rang and I’m pretty sure we’ll be late.” I started to walk to class, Emily nodded in response, following behind.

“ I’m thinking that we can hang out at lunch later today to get to know each other better. How does that sound?” She says with a bubbly tone, seemingly too cheerful for her own good.

“ Oh sure, why not…” I smiled softly and walked into class with her, taking the last row at the back that was empty. As I turned to face the familiar void gazing back at me, goosebumps ran down my spine and onto my arms.

I jerked back, and for some reason, I instantly remembered the guy I encountered near my locker the day I left school. He smiled slyly at me, and when he saw my response, his lips parted just enough to reveal his inhumanely sharp fangs for teeth that I couldn't oversee.

“ Hey You okay? You look pale?  Let’s sit next to each other so that you're not on your own” I couldn’t seem to focus on her, my eyes were focused on the guy whom I still don’t know the name of. Moving a strand of hair behind my ear, I turned to look at Emily, “Sounds good, So can you tell me who that guy over there is sitting? “I licked my dry lips, feeling anxious.

His eyes never left me, they were burning into my skull, causing my heart to race more.

“ Him? Oh That’s Pierce, he’s a transfer student who arrived not too long ago from when you did. I suggest you stay away from him, he seems kinda scary if you ask me. Though the other girls are keeping their eyes on him…”

Pierce, huh? It should come as no surprise that they would give him another go from his fairly good looks. I had a sneaking suspicion that there was more waiting behind those dark eyes. His lips twisted up in enjoyment, a way that told me all there was to know about me. His gaze followed my heart down to my chest, where it pounded, and each time my heart raced faster, I turned away from him.

———

School ended a few minutes ago, I stepped out from the front of the building, hoping my father hadn't arrived yet. A tap on my shoulder sent shivers down my spine again, leading me to suddenly stop dead in my tracks.

“ I thought you wouldn’t show up today Sage, nice to see you showing a bit of face.” When I turned to face Pierce, I saw that he was staring at me with a cold smile.

“ What do you want?-“ I gasp as a memory suddenly comes to my mind out of nowhere.
---

“ What’s wrong, you seem so frightened of me, do I have that effect on you, fear? “ he smirked and helped pull me up, wrapping his arm around my waist.

---

Taking hold of my arm and moving away from him. He approaches me after noticing my response, which makes me take another step back. My memories were slowly returning.

“ Sage!” I spun around to find Cane waving at me from the parking lot. I didn't care how much trouble I was in, I used the opportunity to dash up to him. The only thing that mattered to me at the moment was avoiding Pierce.

Reaching me, Cane put an arm around me and assisted me into his vehicle. His gaze was fixed on Pierce, noticing his pupils change to a brief light green glow. I entered, closing the door behind me while Cane getting into the front driver's seat.

Since we left, we haven't spoken a word. Cane's hands were gripping the wheel firmly, exposing his white knuckles.
