Chapter 25

Grian froze. 

He literally just froze.

He blinked a few times.

Blinked again.

And just froze.

Oh god. Literally, just... oh god. This was horrible. This was terrible. This was the worst thing to ever happen to him in the history of ever and all of his worst fears were coming true and he needed the world to swallow him up and never have him return. Because there was no coming back from this, not ever, not in a million years, not even after all life on Earth was wiped out. This was genuinely horrible and the worst and there were no other words for it that existed in the dictionary for Grian to use. The worst, most devastating, most terrible thing to ever happen.

"Um. Hi," Scar said. His hands were pinned at his side and his arms were stiff, a sign that Grian had come to recognise meant he was suppressing his stims.

"Hi," Grian responded. Those were the only words that he could make come out. If Scar didn't already hate him, he definitely did now. Scar was already mad for Grian's previous outburst and now Grian had gone and done this, and he'd found him and Grian didn't feel safe. That sounded ridiculous and terrible and horrible and all those other things but he genuinely didn't feel safe anymore, because Scar was probably about to corner him in this room and punch him and kick him until he got all his anger out and Grian was nothing but a meaningless pulverised lump in the corner.

No one said anything for a few seconds and Grian wasn't sure whether he was grateful for it or not. He didn't know what he'd say. There was no way of recovering from this. He could always play dumb, but he knew it'd all come around eventually. He also couldn't confess to it, because even if Scar saw it there was no way you could ever ever admit to something like that out loud and he could never confirm someone's suspicions. So he stayed silent. Because what else was there to do? He should run, he wanted nothing more than to just get up and run but Scar was blocking the only exit and there was no chance Scar would let him leave. Not without belittling him and hurting him and making sure he knew that he was nothing and confirming everything Grian already thought about himself.

Screw it.

As quickly as he could and without any other thoughts, Grian stood up and bolted straight towards the doorway. He spotted a gap large enough for him to squeeze through between Scar's side and the doorway and his goal was to just jump through and fly away as fast as possible and pray that Scar didn't care enough to go find him. He wasn't sure how good Scar's reaction time was but it was too late because he was already diving forwards and hurtling through the gap. He pierced through the air and braced himself to hit the solid ground on the other side and there were raindrops on his skin and that meant he'd done it and made it through but this wasn't the end.

The air was let out of him as he made contact with the dirt beneath him and he tried to scramble to his feet but he couldn't. He seriously couldn't. He tried to get up but his ankle was snagged on something.

Scar.

Scar was lying on his stomach covered in mud, his hand outstretched and latched onto one of Grian's ankles. Grian wanted to kick and scream and cry against him until he let him go, but he didn't. Yet again, he just stayed quiet.

"I'm sorry Grian, but you need to stay right here," Scar panted, clearly out of breath.

Why did he need to stay there? So Scar could finally release all the pent-up anger he'd had over the years? So he could finally be straight-up told by him how much everyone on the server disliked him? So he could get what he deserved? Be berated and ridiculed and everything else?
