This is a college AU that I've had floating around in my head for a while. Enjoy 😊

Asami was sitting alone in the dining hall. "I should have just gone to the library. Opal isn't going to show".  She let out a sigh as she absentmindedly picked at the food on the tray in front of her. She checked her phone for any missed messages before refocusing on the engineering project she was working on. Not noticing that someone was at the other side of the table until she heard a chair scraping against the floor. Her head snapped up and was met with stunning blue eyes.

"Hey I'm Korra" the girl smiled, sitting down and straddling the chair. "You're Asami right? I think we have a couple classes together."

Asami's brain short circuited. She kept staring at those eyes. Why can't I figure out how to form words? Come on Sato stop staring and say something. She blinked, shaking off her nerves and smiled. She was about to respond when she heard snickering from a group of jocks at a nearby table. That's when she noticed Korras soccer jersey. She knew exactly what was going on and she really wasn't in the mood.

"What do you want?" she asked flatly, looking back down at her project. "Well Asami do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk past you again?" Korra asked grinning. Asami looked up stunned, butterflies forming in her stomach. Is she really hitting on me? She could feel her cheeks turning red. She hadn't expected to be hit on by Korra of all people. But before she could even respond to that terrible pick up line the nearby table erupted into laughter. Suddenly her face felt hot. She hated being embarrassed in front of people, especially for sport.

She stood up quickly and glared at Korra. "That's really the best you can do. You just had to come over here and be an asshole?" Asami snapped as she shoved her tablet into her bag before turning towards the exit. Korra was up and out of her seat in a second  "Asami wait..." but the doors were already closing behind the girl as Korra was being surrounded by her teammates and the laughter continued.

"Nice job Korra, though you could convert straight girls?" Shin laughed wrapping his arm around Korras shoulder. "Shut up Shin" Korra grumbled shoving him off her and heading towards the exit. Shin scoffed "guess you aren't as amazing as you claim to be!" He shouted after her. Mako quickly followed. "Watch your mouth Shin" he warned before heading after Korra.

Korra didn't understand why, but she had to find Asami. What was that look she gave me? She made it out the doors but after a quick look around she saw no sign of Asami. "Great, way to be an asshole Korra" She plopped down on a nearby bench putting her face in her hands.

"You know he was just baiting you right?" Mako asked taking a seat next to Korra. Korra let out a sigh and ran her fingers through her short choppy hair. "I know. I don't know why I let him talk me into doing stupid shit. But when have you ever known me to turn down a challenge." Mako chuckled "you aren't wrong on that." "I just feel like such an asshole now." Korra continued, staring down at her feet. "It was the way she looked at me..." Korra trailed off, getting lost in her thoughts. What was that anyways? She's not the first straight girl you've hit on. But she didn't respond like the others. It's almost like she was interested. There's no way.

Korra shook her head and looked up to find Mako staring at her. "Boy you zoned out hard. What look?" he asked confused. "Nothing" Korra waved him off as she got up. "I think I'm going to go hit the gym. I'll see you tomorrow at practice." Giving Mako a quick fist bump before heading towards the athletic building. "Hey don't go too hard. Remember we have that game against Tahno soon. I don't want to give him any advantage! Mako shouted after her. Korra spun around "Don't worry. He doesn't stand a chance." Winking before turning back around.

The walk back her dorm room did little to help Asami calm down. She opened the door and flipped on the light to find the room empty which she was slightly grateful for. So she flipped it right back off, making her way to her side of the room before collapsing on the bed. What the hell was that? Why did I freeze up so bad in front of Korra? Asami groaned in frustration then realized she still hadn't heard from Opal. Her best friend was seeing a guy named Bolin who was on the soccer team so she was probably with him. But she knew she would see her tomorrow night. Some of their friends were getting together at the local bar to celebrate Opals birthday. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and shot Opal a quick text.

Asami [10:35pm]
Hey O, just checking in. I'm never stepping foot in the dining hall again btw. I guess I'll tell you in class tomorrow. Night.

Asami let her phone drop onto the bed and  stared at the ceiling. Why is this bothering me so much?  She let out a sight deciding to not drive herself crazy.  Eventually managing to force herself out of bed and deciding a hot shower would be relaxing.

The next morning Asami woke, groping to find her phone. She cracked an eye open to check the time seeing it was still early and she had an unread message from Opal

Opal [6:02am]
Asami I'm so sorry! I wasn't trying to ditch you last night I promise! I'll explain everything later. See you soon!

Asami headed to her first class of the day. She definitely felt better than she did last night and as she entered the class room she was greeted by Opal waving at her. Asami smiled and made her way over to her friend taking a seat next to her. "Hey what happened to you last night?" She asked quietly as more students started filing in. "I'm so sorry" Opal  blushed. "Bolin and I got a little carried away and I ended up staying the night." Asami laughed "It's okay I understand. But boy do I have a story to tell you."

Opal was all ears now. "You wont guess who came up and hit on me last night..." but then Asami caught sight of Korra making her way down to some of the lower seats. Asami felt a flash of anger and she must have been staring because Opal snapped her back to reality. "Are you okay? Why are you staring at Korra...Oh my god don't tell me that Korra hit on you!" Opal was practically scream whispering. Asami took a deep breath. "That's who I was going to tell you about. Korra came up to me in the dining hall and started hitting on me in front of her idiot friends." Opals eyes widened. "No she didn't! That's such a dick move!" Opal glaring at the back of Korras head and then right on cue the professor started class forcing both girls to drop the conversation for later.

Opal had stayed with Asami the rest of the day. Feeling guilty for ditching her the night before. "I still can't believe Korra did that" Opal said rummaging through her closet trying to find something to wear for the night. Asami laid back on her bed with a huff.  "I know! The line wasn't even that bad. It was the rest of the soccer team laughing that ruined it." Opal paused for a second and looked at Asami wide eyed. "Wait you would have considered going out with her?" she asked shocked. Asami suddenly sat up and  flushed red.

This was entirely new territory for her. Just last year she came to the decision that the feelings she had towards the same sex weren't just admiration but attraction. "I mean she's not bad on the eyes. Asami said shooting Opal a smile. At least with Opal she didn't have to feel awkward. She had enough confidence for the both of them. Opal gave her a warm reassuring smile. "Just be careful okay? Korra has a good heart but she's got some issues and from what I've heard around campus she's kind of a fuckboy." Opal held a little black dress in front of her reflection in the mirror. Asami felt a pang of disappointment but forced a smile. "You should definitely wear that tonight."
