~YAEL~
Yael wandered about Duncan's home as she hummed a tune her mother sang to her when she was a baby. She was at ease, and she loved every moment of her life. A bright smile touched her lips, and she walked to his bookshelf, looking at the books he was interested in.
A lot of it were technical textbooks that she supposed was for his work, but there were the occasional few fiction books. He seemed to love epic fantasy a lot, as well as science fiction. She never had much patience for those kinds of books, but as she picked one off the shelf, she found it piquing her interest. She placed it back on the shelf and looked at the rest of the titles. There were several cookbooks, which would certainly explain why the food he cooked was so delicious. She loved to cook herself and recognised a few of the books he had. Those were great cookbooks indeed. Her own copies were well worn.
Leaving the bookshelf, she walked over to the side of the front door. There were a few hanging boxes there that resembled bird holes. She looked into each of them, and saw items like keys, candies and pills. She wondered about what he would need those pills for when something above the boxes caught her eyes.
It was a calendar. It was showing the current year, 1954, and the current month, but somewhere down the days which were coming soon, there was a date circled with a red marker. She mused about it. What could that date be for?
She had a few ideas. Maybe it was his birthday. Or Lucy's birthday. Well, it wasn't hers. It looked like an important date and she flipped to other months, but saw no other similar dates which were circled. That only made her more curious. This must be some special date indeed, if it was the only date he had circled out of the entire year. What was it?
Just then, the door swung open again and Lucy came walking in.
"What are you looking at?" Lucy asked.
"Where is Duncan?" Yael asked.
"He's picking some tomatoes for a soup later."
"Oh," Yael said, then returned to staring at the red circle.
"What's up?"
"This," Yael pointed at the red circle. "Why he circle this date?"
"Oh, that date," Lucy said, her expression turning more serious.
"What is this date?"
"Well, I'm not sure you want to know..."
"Tell me."
"It's Maya's death anniversary."
